I asked this before playoffs and now I modify it a little bit, who, Simmons, Fultz or Smith, will make a 3 first?

Pulling for Fultz, but probably Smith. His outside shot will be just fine.

With how pathetic the effort is in the regular season, I expect Zhaire to get some crazy Dejounte Murray type stats when given PT specially down the stretch.

You know a guy scores too much on garbage points when you finish all his highlights in youtube in less than an hour

Smith plays a more controlled game than Rodney even at 19. Superior defensive player, much better playmaker, and moves better off the ball.

Brett appears confident in his ability to develop his shot and create offensively. Let's hope his instincts are on point here.

Either way, that unprotected 2021 pick was a pure stroke of Hinkie genius.

Well as I made obvious in the draft thread, I wasn't a fan of taking Mikal, I think he will be a solid role player but anyone saying Zhaire can't dribble...well Mikal can't either and he's 3 years older. Now I don't know why we like guys who can't dribble, but thats another subject, pass the ball around in BB's system I guess.

Now Mikal's handles might be mildly better, but not by much so let's not act like we gave up a guy with Kyrie's handles. I do think we are better this season with Mikal cause he was more plug and play, maybe would've started if Fultz isn't ready. Longer term I do like Zhaire's upside much better and getting the pick was a bonus cause before that trade we thought this would be our last high pick in a long time so it was a game changer in terms of our future of either making the pick ourselves or in trades.

I do wonder about Lonnie, as he is more developed, but who knows about the medical on him as they reported. Now Zhaire is the first real high flyer that will play with Ben other than maybe Holmes who never gets to play, so when he does come in I look for him to make the crowd go nuts as not only does he have a 45' vertical, he also had the 2nd fastest sprint time of all the rookies....so if you wanted someone who can run and finish with Ben (which I did), well here's your guy.

Mikal is more of a finished product, and helps you from day 1. Thats nice to have, but its not what I wanted, we needed some upside and while it will take time to see if Zhaire will develop, he does give us that upside. Now neither one of them can dribble, lets get that clear, and I'm really tired of seeing the non-dribbling crew on the court (they need to be doing drills in their sleep), so saying Zhaire can't dribble is a moot point if your talking about Mikal.

End of the day, I don't think we are a better team right now cause of this draft, which is a little hard to wrap my head around. We lost a player in Mikal who can help us right now for a player who can't help as much in Zhaire, but thats where the pick and potential comes in along with Zhaire being 3 years younger and also being a good defender. This was a BB thing, brought him in twice, so he must see something and trust in the kid's development if he mentions Kawhi (which you would never do with Mikal). The trade was definitely worth it, the potential of Zhaire was worth it, and the only question I have is if Lonnie will end up better cause he can actually dribble.

Maybe long term, but this season neither one of them will likely be in the rotation, nor should they.

I bet Zhaire will be part of our rotation and he will be a key contributor in may if we'll reach (hopefully) the post season.

Winejk wrote:That differs from the Suns' version of it, at least on the Suns board. From the Suns version, they were ready to make DiVincenzo the #16 pick and with 30 seconds left on the clock the Sixers called and forced the deal through.

Of course this is all posturing by both sides to make themselves look good, but what is the true story?

How much did Brett Brown have to do with Kawhi Leonard's development in San Antonio? Brown was in charge of player development wasn't he? If Brown played a role in Leonard's development, and Smith reminds Brown of Leonard, then in Brett Brown I trust.

I think the Suns might be pulling their supporters legs there because there was a bit of negativity over the 1st round pick being given up. If there is one thing Brett Brown is... it's that he is honest.

Brown was pretty adamant in his press conference that at no time did they think of trying to trading Bridges even though teams were ringing for Bridges and that they knocked back a few deals. He said Phoenix came in and offered that unprotected pick plus Zhaire which was the other guy they wanted... and it was a no brainer... but that the entire thing happened in about 20 mins.

I definitely see Zhaire role as a combo guard who comes off the bench to defend 1-3. I'm also a little worried that Zhaire will take over TJ's minutes in short time.

I seriously doubt he has anything to do with TJ's mins, Zhaire can't dribble or run a team.

Now JJ and Marco, one will probably not be here.

BB stressed that Zhaire can develop in creating his own shot.

I understand that people is scared from what happened to fultz, but teenagers tends to improve if they are talented.
The last time we selected an unknown prospect that was raw at the start of college seasons and that improved fast month by month it was in 2014.
That prospect was JoJo.
I don't think Zhaire is JoJo but I never underestimate the fast learners.

I suppose that anything is possible, but not many 19 year old non lottery picks get roles on 52 win teams with max cap space.

I don't expect him to do it this year, but I would love for him to earn one.

To me, thats a direct shot at JJ and Marco.

We do need a better mixture of shooting and defenders, no doubt, just wish any of them could dribble.

So if this kid is not part of a trade for Kawhi, but turns out to be a great wing defender, and we instead flip Fultz and the Miami pick for Kemba Walker or someone like that....does this change your opinion on the trade?
