Feels like that Harkless pick before he was part of the trade for Bynum

I really think there's a lot more ball handling there than he could show in Texas Tech. Evans and Culver are superior good ball handlers and shot creators so I understood the hierarchy on offense.
That said, I've seen too many flashes of Zhaire Smith driving past his opponent and dishing the ball to the big to state that he's a zero on the offensive end. It will all depend on development with this kid, how much can he improve his shot.
Hearing that Brett Brown is all in on this kid makes me drool.

From the video of his private work out with us, his shooting form actually looked alright but it was just TJ level slow. Hopefully he goes straight to LA from summer league to join Fultz with Hanlon.

I’m going to love watching this kid shut down the top offensive picks in SL. That’ll be so satisfying.

I will say his athleticism isn't paper athleticism. He uses it about as well as you can for a guy that's pretty raw. Unreal almost casual explosion. I don't believe in players significantly improving their handles from a creation standpoint but I do believe role can sometimes hide a persons creation ability. We'll get to see if that's the case. If he's dunking on fools like he was in our workouts.

Brett is definitely targeting Kawhi. and Zhaire is not part of the offer. but the '21 draft pick is key.

Yes. And the way he speaks of Kelle he’s obviously going no where as well. Think are talking cov and picks for Kawhi at this point

I have to say I wasn't much of a Zhaire Smith fan before the draft. But my draft preferences aside, I am rooting for the kid to play well and I hope he can turn into something special. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Looking at his twitter doesn't seem to be a social media guy. As much as I like watching some of our guys driving while drinking otter milk on snapchat, or throwing massive hay-makers on twitter. It's nice to get a lowkey type guy.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
I might be crazy, but this trade and pick has me excited. My big board had Knox 1st and Mikal and SGA tied for 2nd (I had Carter rated higher, but expected him to be gone by pick 8). I didn't have Zhaire ranked because I thought 10 was too high for him. Without knowing how he shot in workouts I couldn't justify moving him up. I also was worried his growth would take more time than we had to spare.
The pick for Bridges was the safe, but, blah pick. I think he is close to maxed out on his ability and his on-ball defense was getting overrated by quite a bit.
This morning I find myself still very excited for this pick. Brett stating his shot was already showing growth and improvement really carries a lot of weight. Brett isn't one to exaggerate or fib on things like this so if he's seeing improvement then I believe it. I can't wait to see him in Summer League. We might finally have a summer league guy that just goes out and his elite athleticism dominates and then suddenly everyone is taking note and asking how did he slide.
I also like this pick because part of the reason we lost to the Celtics is we had no one who could guard effectively 1-3. This kid will be able to do that without problems by mid-season at the latest. He could be our version of Marcus Smart, but with a developing jumper. Summer league cant get here fast enough!

I am hoping he does well obviously, but I am hoping that Mikal does better after Brown doing the dirty on him.

Maybe long term, but this season neither one of them will likely be in the rotation, nor should they.
I definitely see Zhaire role as a combo guard who comes off the bench to defend 1-3. I'm also a little worried that Zhaire will take over TJ's minutes in short time.
I suppose that anything is possible, but not many 19 year old non lottery picks get roles on 52 win teams with max cap space.
I don't expect him to do it this year, but I would love for him to earn one.
The way I see it. TJ, TLC and Holmes are on their final year then they'd be replaced with zhaire, shamet and bolden in 2019-2020

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
Zhaire Smith and a 2021 unprotected 1st round pick. I like what the 76ers parlayed from the #10 pick. I would have been sick to my stomach if they settled for a Mikal Bridges level talent at that spot. (He can go be Wesley Johnson or Mo Harkless over in Phoenix).
I would have preferred Miles Bridges, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Troy Brown, to Mikal Bridges. But since they all were taken by the #16 pick, I'm happy with what Brett Brown the GM did. And the heartless execution of the transaction also gives me more confidence about this off-season. (Leave David Griffin where he is. He wasn't a good GM.)

To me, thats a direct shot at JJ and Marco.
We do need a better mixture of shooting and defenders, no doubt, just wish any of them could dribble.
Mikal's greatest weakness was his handle and creating his own shot. So people who are knocking Zhaire for that weakness don't make any sense.
This team basically said, we don't want the polished shooter who lacks the elite athleticism to lock down a man on iso. We prefer the guy who can lock down the perimeter and who has an improving shot. That's really the difference between these two guys.

Wow, you and I are starting to agree more often. This must be a sign that Zhaire is going to dominate.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
Upside pick. Mikal may have been able to help our team more currently, but Zhaire may be able to help us more in 3 or 4 years. Love the trade for the Miami pick for a ton of reasons and getting an upside athlete player is alright by me. Felt terrible for Mikal and his family the way it worked out, but you learn the business of the NBA pretty harshly sometimes. I think Mikal got traded to a situation that will help him and he will fit well with that young core.
But back to the Miami pick. Looking at their situation, theyve got a TON of money used up the next two years on their current team, which is great for the value of that pick. They likely will top out at the 6-9 seed the next two years, and not get a stud guy to help via the draft. They do however basically have all the cap space in the world the summer before this pick. Meaning they could in theory pull a 2010 and make a super team again and make this pick rather useless. So it may not hurt to trade it sooner rather than later, depending on how the situation plays out as it gets closer.
One more giant thing to keep in mind regarding the Miami pick. 2021 was the year sent out in the memo to teams stating that it could be the year that the one and done rule is done. Which is ginormous to have a high pick in that draft. Because all of the best one and dones who were forced to go to college will join a draft with all of the best high schoolers who suddenly could go straight to the NBA again. Meaning 2021's draft could be absolutely LOADED. You could be getting some star players in the early teens in that draft depending on the full talent pool and assuming the rule does in fact go into affect. So for that reason, I would be very hesitant to just throw this pick into any trade for a star. Because the pick has the potential to be even more valuable than ever if that rule goes into affect.

Lakers will prove that having cap space is 1 thing, but forming a superteam with it is another.
Miami's first superteam only worked because they already had 1 superstar (Wade).
Don't see them having 1 against then.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
I have to say I am shocked and LOL'ed at the same time. I am thinking you're gonna see Mika's mom quit her job lol. This is hilariously f'ed up.
I turned the draft off after we passed on Porter to take Mikal and to be honest, even though I read a million stories about the 76ers having their eye on local-product Mikal Bridges etc. I never read that his Mom was a bigtime employee of the team lol When I saw that all I'm thinking is, "So we really are all about that nepotism lol." I turned the draft off and went back to reading a book.
NOW I am seeing we did him dirty lol. This is messed up. I mean you don't introduce the kid with his Mom and have her celebrating etc. then be like, "Sorry, we're trading you for a former 3-star and a future 1st round pick in 2 years ...." regardless of whether or not it's the "right thing to do" , to me it's not the "Right thing to do".
Kinda hilarious tho, messed up however. I also am wondering if this is part of another package, does San Antonio want Zhaire and more pics as part of the Kawhi package (which I HOPE DOES NOT GET DONE AS I HAVE MADE VERY CLEAR, I am just saying it seems possible. When Eli wouldn't play for San Diego, they insisted on Philip Rivers, not Roethistubesteak, who was generally considered the next best, but San Diego was specific, they wanted their own guy. San Antonio could feel the same way about Zhaire rather than Mikal etc.)
