Hornets picked up mystery player per Kupchak

Post#1 » by MasterIchiro » Fri Jun 22, 2018 6:15 pm

In the post-draft press conference, Kupchak said the Hornets picked up a player but they will discuss it at a later date. I'm wondering if it was part of that deal with the Clippers. Austin Rivers picked up his player option for 12 million. His salary matches Marvin or MKG. One of those contracts needs to be moved in order to keep Kemba with a Max. Both became expendable when Miles Bridges was picked.

Is it possible that Kupchak leveraged SGA into Miles Bridges + Devonte Graham + a backup PG on an expiring contract allowing Kemba to stay and nuetralizing Mozgov?

No way Doc trades his son.

Probably someone from OKC from the Ham trade.

Oh that makes sense. He was interviewed after the Graham pick but before pick 45 I think.

I'm guessing it has to do with that #45 pick.

No idea who we'd want from OKC though. Dakari Johnson? They have Felton, but he is a free agent.

Im assuming later date is whenever the Nets/Dwight/Ham/OKC trades becomes official.

He fits into our Dwight trade exception, it would be an excellent use of that for sure. Mitch also drafted him in the 2nd round years ago, so it would be a cool reunion.

"There's obviously some things we can't talk about that will come out at a later date."

"And I think it's going to help us, you know, beyond this year."

"Down the road, with assets."

Yeah, im almost 100% sure its someone on OKC. I never heard what we got for Ham and Mitch said selling picks is a waste, so we didn't sell Ham. The only thing left is trade.

Doc is no longer in charge of that front office. He's just the coach now.

Could just be Mozgov I guess, not sure how that'd help us long-term though.

I'm in agreement that Moz is likely the guy being talked about by Mitch, but yeah ... if it really were Beverly then that would be amazing.

I really want us to get a Lin level PG, Pat Bev would be awesome. Unless you're a Conference Finalist, playing with small guards isn't a mortal wound for your defense. I actually appreciate the guys from Dunc'd On for this POV. In a league flush with PGs and they are starting to be undervalued I'd love for us to pick up a guy like Milos, Pat Bev or Dennis Schroder (assuming Charlotte can dump a worse contract). Charlotte actually has enough/one too many wings, we should take advantage and get unequal value on a big or a small.

Yeah, I can't see it being a mystery player, although it's fun to think of it that way. Someone would have reported it. It's got to be Mozgov.

After a bit of research I'm willing to bet that if the team did pick up a player with the Clips trade then it's likely Teodosic as he would fit in the space the team has with Dwight's trade and his salary isn't fully guaranteed. Rumors were already out there that Milos wouldn't be back in LA.

Could it actually be MKG or Marv plus the 45 pick to OKC for Abrines and Singler? Both expire after the year and would give us flexibility to resign Kemba. IDK, probably just the Dwight trade but it seemed like there might be more to it.

I would be very happy if MKG or Marvin are part of the Clippers deal or OKC deal. But it seems like big contracts like that wouldn't leave major details to be ironed out. There's only so many options to match salaries.
