Look...I watched Okogie play a ton last year and he certainly has skills but he just never flashed. His offensive game is weak at this point. If you wanted a guy that can defend and gives 100% effort then you'll definitely be happy with Okogie. I just felt it was a "need" selection rather than going with "potential" in Robert Williams. I want Josh to be an excellent player and will certainly root for him to succeed.

wait. So you whine about his offensive game being weak then wish we wouldve gone with robert williams? that guy shot 47% from the ft line and was the 4th leading scorer on his team

Apparently I'm not the only one who feels the way I do: (From ESPN)

Boston Celtics

Selected center Robert Williams with the No. 27 pick.

Schmitz: Along with Walker, Williams has the potential to be the steal of the draft at No. 27 -- the same draft slot of a similar lob-catching, shot-blocking center in Clint Capela. While there are clear questions about Williams' motor, the rangy big man is without a doubt a top-10 caliber talent when fully engaged.

He's much more suited for the open NBA game than the role he played as a power forward with clogged paint at Texas A&M. Boston is the exact environment that Williams needs to rev up his focus and commitment to his craft. The Celtics also could really use a big in Williams' mold, as he'll be a tremendous lob threat for Kyrie Irving and the rest of Boston's offensive weapons.

I'm certainly not saying that Williams doesn't have talent, but unless we have given up completely on Dieng and Patton there is no place for him on our team. Okogie can instantly be the primary backup for both Buckets and Wiggins. I also think when looking at potential Okogie has every bit as much potential as Williams being that Okogie was by most measures the best athlete in the entire draft.

Yeah Okogie is one of those college players who scores over 18 PPG,draws fouls like Brad Pitt draws women, and has a weak offensive game. His offensive game to be honest is still a work in progress, but I don't get the talk that he is poor on offense.

Thanks Grits :D . I'll be here all week. Remember to tip the wait staff.

Really happy with how the draft went. I was higher on Frazier than those two but also I dont see those guys in the workouts.

Both are long, can shoot, rebound and block shots. Both seem to have good floors and bring value off the gate, but we cant count on them being our depth this season. I hope we keep bjelly for similar money and bring another veteran wing for the MLE like Wayne Ellington or similar. Im happy and hope those two take as many minutes from Wiggins as possible.

There's a lot to like about Frazier, however their is more upside with Okogie.

I don't believe Louisiana and Massachusetts are in the same time zone.

Now that's funny! I just assumed you thought he was in NY for the draft, and missed the part of the article about Louisiana.

That was a very good pick for the Wolves and in general we had 2 good selections this year.
Thibs knows what he is doing and I think he is a great general manager.

Okogie is a better shooter and playmaker, but Frazier uspide on defense looks even better, and while I dont have proof I think Okogie has a better floor while Frazier has bigger upside. In our position I can understand the option even if Frazier has more potential (which only an personal opinion anyway).

Something that surprised the hell out of me was when I went to visit my uncle in the Florida Panhandle. Florida east coast right. As east as you can be I thought. Central Time Zone.

KBD better be prepared to work hard in defense, because I have strong Derrick Williams vibes.

I see a lot of Trey Lyles type of player. To play in the NBA he will have to develop a 3pt shot or he will be solidly on the bench if on the roster at all.

If he is strong and quick as Dray Green, then it is possible. He is long enough to play 5.

I did a very brief breakdown on six minutes of Melvin Frazier's play against Wichita that I lost when my computer crashed, but to briefly summarize, he has questionable defensive discipline and a horrible, horrible handle. Highest dribble in transition you will ever see.

I also think with his 7.4 wingspan he can in the modern NBA. I know people question his physicality, but I hate saying a guy isn't active on defense when he's his team's main offensive weapon. At OSU, KBD was their No. 1 offensive weapon and needed to stay on the floor. He had to avoid foul trouble. In the pros, he can be a lot more physical.
