Do we know just about how tall this guy really is? I've read varying statements.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
People are talking about him playing small forward but I've seen him listed at 6' 2 or 3. Then on the vid from the combine they refer to him being 6' 4" or 5. The 6 10 reach seems to be agreed upon, that's helpful.

Covington, Bayless, rights to Shamet, and 2021 MIA 1st. If they beg they can have Pasecniks too

He was 6'4 in shoes at combine with 6'10 wingspan.. he had a longer wingspan than miles bridges btw.. and hes almoust 2 years younger. If he grows even a tiny bit it wont b surprising. He can play SF eventually IMO the question isnt his size its if he can become legit from 3

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
His measurements are similar in terms of size and length to those of Oladipo, Normal Powell or Mitchell, but his frame is different, his frame is not as bulky, frame is more similar to Derrick Rose I think.
This kid needs to be a combo guard to succeed, forget about SF, he won't be **** at SF with his size and shot. His upside is tied with his ability to handle the ball mostly, the shot is secondary in comparison, but still important. If he ever gets a decent shot, it will be off the dribble I think, he doesn't look capable at all from standstill NBA 3pt range, but of course he can improve, however, based on what I've seen, trying him to be strictly 3 and D is a mistake, this kid has ballhandling potential.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
I was slightly against picking this guy because he is so raw but listening to Brett, looking at his stats and watching his tape he is just as good as Mikal on defense maybe even better one on one and he is nearly 3 years younger plus we got an unprotected 1st round pick.
Whats not to love, excited to see what we do next.....

Dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. He has the athleticism, awareness and effort to be a good defensive player. He has the offensive awareness and coordination to make good passes on the move. He is a decent FT shooter for a Freshman, so he has a chance to be a decent shooter. The question is his handle. He got 3 out of 4.
Some athletic guys who come out of HS/college without an advanced handle, also aren't good passers. (See Andrew Wiggins) Zhaire can pass the ball. He has some good things going for him. If he doesn't get much better, he probably is still good enough to at least be Norman Powell.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I agree that his handle is the weakest link, but it looks less shaky than Wiggins’ handle.
I wish that Smith was 3 or 4 inches taller because he would then be fine at the 3, but due to his size he is going to have to play mostly at the 2, where his lack of a handle will be more problematic.
He is tenacious, quick, and can jump though. I only watched him play one game this year and he didn’t have a great game. Most of my observations just come from highlights.
I’m thrilled with the result of the trade down for him. I like Mikal better than him, and obviously more than you do, but I think that Mikal’s upside is lower than Smith’s. Trading down and picking up an unprotected first round pick was huge.
Now, we can approach San Antonio, and conceivably offer them Covington, Saric and the Miami pick, and that is going to be better than any other offers I think. Teams are going to be scared off of him due to his preference for LA, but I think that we have a great shot of making him happy in Philly so I think that we will be able to offer more than Boston.
I’m not going to offer Fultz without an assurance that he will resign, and I’m reluctant to offer Saric, but if push came to shove I would have to do it.

If he were 3-4 inches taller with that athleticism he's probably in the top 8. I think we'll see pretty early on in SL whether he has serious issues handling the rock or if it was a situation born out of circumstance. I think it's the first but I'm hoping it's the latter.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
One thing I'll say about Smith is there are different kinds of sub-par ball handlers. There are sloppy ball handlers and there are stiff ball handlers. He seems to be more on the stiff side. I wonder if when he matures and becomes more comfortable in his own skin if that's something that will loosen up just because he's more confident and he'll add some moves to his arsenal. He doesn't seem to force a lot, which can be a positive or negative depending on how you look at it. Every rookie turns the ball over, but I don't think it's going to be some glaring issue with him. I think he will hesitate to shoot though, much like Simmons. Until he develops his game more. At least he seems to be confident in nature.

The shot isn't really a huge problem. It's got a passable amount of projectability. It's the lack of handle and creation ability that capsizes his upside.
Kid played center in H.S. Hasn't had a lot of practice time doing that. Let's see how it develops.

I could see him having a floor of Marcus Smart but with a shot. I'd take that without regrets.

Cmon now. His floor is being out of the league in a few years. Marcus Smart is a good player with no chance of being out of the league anytime soon (other than catastrophic injury). I don’t even think Zhaire’s median outcome is better than Smart.

I turned the draft off after we passed on Porter to take Mikal and to be honest, even though I read a million stories about the 76ers having their eye on local-product Mikal Bridges etc. I never read that his Mom was a bigtime employee of the team lol When I saw that all I'm thinking is, "So we really are all about that nepotism lol." I turned the draft off and went back to reading a book.
NOW I am seeing we did him dirty lol. This is messed up. I mean you don't introduce the kid with his Mom and have her celebrating etc. then be like, "Sorry, we're trading you for a former 3-star and a future 1st round pick in 2 years ...." regardless of whether or not it's the "right thing to do" , to me it's not the "Right thing to do".
It's a business man
It was completely the right thing to do

If you're high on BPM in scouting draft prospects, this should put a smile on your face.
Any word from Pelton regardint Zhaire?

Lakers wanted ben, embiid and zhaire. We got all three. Time to get LeBron and Kawhi

Zhaire has 2nd highest rank on purely stats on 538's model. Player comps are Winslow, Malik Monk and Malik Beasley though

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
Zhaire is certainly a difficult player to project from his days in HS and college. Brett clearly sees he can mold this kid into an Avery Bradley type of guard/wing. I think we'll see him on the court in short spurts in defensive possessions, but thats probably it for his first year. Zhaire's ceiling is through the roof and he'll be a thorn on Fultz's side from day one at practice with his defense.

If he can develop into Avery Bradley then that would be cool. Just not really high on these super athletic defenders who arent much offensive threats but are sold as "got the upside too improve there". I mean he has to improve otherwise this is KJ McDaniels. I'm going to hope he has the same kind of dog defense as Marcus Smart does.
