Who do we trade next?

Post#1 » by JDR720 » Sun Jun 24, 2018 1:15 am

So we traded Dwight but many of us think we need to make other trades, so who is next?

Zeller is almost untouchable now with the Howard trade.

Ive wanted to trade MKG since the last playoff team. I would have liked to find a way to keep Lin or Lee that summer with his money gone. Probably would have been bad moves too in retrospect with Lin’s injuries etc., but I’m still ready to move on from him.

Nic Batum for sure. If we can dump MKG and Batum in one offseason and get decent returns, then this will be one of our greatest offseasons in a long time

Batum is poised for a rebound, sharing the court sandwiched between two scorers (Kemba + Lamb) while reuniting with Cody. His value is heading upwards. At some point he can be moved without attaching an asset like Kemba or picks. Not now.

Marvin seems the perfect mentor to Miles. Marvin has played the 3 and the 4. He's the captain of the defense. And now that Howard is gone, his voice will be heard. He will gain value after this year ticks off his contract. Not now.

They just said they're building around Kemba. They would have moved him at the draft.

MKG can't shoot. Still. The game changed on him and continues to move in the opposite direction from his. He lacks the shooting skill. However he's still young, has high character, experience, and capable of anchoring a defense. I see him being captain on defense for a rebuilding team. I think he fits best in Sacramento, Atlanta and Chicago. With Atlanta invested to the hilt in Trae Young, I think he fits best there.

My vote is MKG but I know I know, he's better than Beal and nobody here would ever trade him, not even for Hayward or Klay Thompson. Also, we should've kept Biz.

I suspect that getting rid of Nic's contract would be too costly in terms of future assets or young guys needed, so as impactful as that might be it seems unlikely to me.

Lamb is probably an easy contract to move ... but getting equivalent value back would be nearly impossible so I don't see him being moved any time soon. *Maybe* he gets traded before the deadline if they aren't going resign him in 2019.

That leaves Cody, MKG, and Marv as the guys most likely to be traded. As mentioned above Cody seems to be needed for center depth ... unless the staff feels like Frank or Willy can be a starting center. His injury history will also factor into making him difficult to trade. Marv is a great vet with skills that could be useful for a lot of teams including this one. I could see the right team wanting to take him on. But MKG seems to be the one most likely to be traded of those three to me. He's still young and is known as a high character guy. By a super slim margin he just seems to me like the guy most likely to get new team colors the soonest.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

MKGs first summer league game still haunts me. Was such a beast. Had a pullup 3 after a steal with his seizure like motion. I thought for sure he was going to be a star. Oh well. I still think he can get it together.

MKG simultaneously might be my favorite player and my choice for whom we should move next. Well, Mozgov is easily number one, but as far as guys that we can actually move I think MKG is the guy. Zeller regaining the starting spot he should've never lost means we need shooters everywhere else in the starting lineup; maybe MKG can move to the bench but I think moving him might be best.

Move any of Lamb, MKG, and Marv for an expiring PG.

I would move whichever of the veteran wings would be the least painful, as far as giving up assets is concerned. I assume that would be either MKG or Marvin. Preferably MKG.

I think they’ll trade Lamb in order to open up more PT for Monk and to maximize Lamb’s expiring and affordable contract.

As more as it looks like PG13 and Kawhi won't be joining Bron in LA, I think it raises the chances that he tries to win another with Cleveland. If he stays, Kemba should be near the top of his wish list.

Agree that nothing is likely to happen until Kemba courting is done.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Except we just said we aren't moving Kemba. It doesn't matter where LeBron goes, or if he leaves, Charlotte isn't going to trade Kemba. I mean before the draft people were so confident he'd be traded someone even made an "aftermath" post. If you guys didn't get it before, then you should get it now. If Kemba came out and said he wanted to be traded, then sure, but he's building a house in Charlotte and said he wants to stay with the team. Someone picked up the sound bite that he wants to win, which by the way did you expect him to say he wants to lose, and then everyone infers that means Kemba may want to live the team. Okay, I'm done with my rant. :banghead:

This is not me advocating to trade Kemba, but nobody said we aren't trading him. Mitch said that we would PREFER to keep him here, build around him, and him retire here. He also said his contract situation could be difficult going forward and that nobody wants to see him leave in free agency. In other words, he didn't totally commit either way. This is GM talk and can go either way quickly.

Also, this trade would not have happened on draft night as the Cavs could not do it then unless they were getting our pick back. They have no pick next year, and had to make a pick this year, and we weren't sending our pick back to them along with Kemba

I know right. I remember the first two plays he made were two beautiful strong drives to the rim. The whole game he looked like an alpha on the court, making jumpers, getting some sweet passes, holding down the defense. I don't wanna say we never saw that MKG again as he has had a few games where he looked like a beast, especially in his rookie year. But the more season go by, the more it seems like MKG is who he is. Sad, I remember watching that summer league game and thinking, "Wow! We finally got our guy!"

MI, I agree with this. I chose Marvin for the exact reason you stated though. Other teams realize that the game is going opposite of MKG also, and most would probably prefer the 3 & D ability of Marvin. If we can get MKG traded, then heck yeah.

Keep mkg he’s still young and with our new choaching staff maybe unlock some untapped shooting potential.Plus those freak injuries he had and this year with him being out mentally from family member passing away I think next season should be his best year. Look to trade for lamb and Marvin first and maybe frank
