Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets/Etc., Vol. 4
I remember when I was a kid, there was a commercial that said "everytime you learn something, you get a wrinkle in your brain...just imagine how many wrinkles you get, when you read a book!" And I remember as an elementary school kid thinking Okay so if I'm reading a book, and the character goes to the store, did I learn that and do I get a new wrinkle? Or do I only get a wrinkle if I learn a FACT like something from science class. LOL.
Anyway, Firas claims he is a huge fan of science and reads about it all the time. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was using "wrinkles" as shorthand for synapses/neurons and neural pathways/plasticity, etc. lol.

Well, to be fair, it depends on how you define "leading," "intellectual," and "world."
Great now I'll feel douchey when that wasn't the exact quote. But the context of the statement was something like Sam Harris and Jordan Peterson were disagreeing about something despite both of them being leading minds or whatever the exact wording was.

He was a philosophy major, yea? Unless I'm confusing him with Danaher. I'm sure it was Rogan that kept the conversation at a PH101 level, I feel like he was misinterpreting a lot of arguments because he hadn't heard them before.
Danaher was a PhD in Philosophy at Columbia. Those are at least credentials.

A lot of guys have commented saying Rogan's kicks are insane. I'm no kicking expert, but why are you guys so against the idea that he's a super powerful kicker? his impact definitely looks impressive.

It's the legend of it. I don't listen to JRE that often but have heard the story of him and GSP a dozen times. And the ingratiating way everyone flatters him with it.
Also, this is how he boxes:
He uploaded that himself, presumably, thinking it's impressive.

IDK I just did it because cbr brought it up. It doesnt bother me although it does get tiring hearing about it again and again and again and again. Also, I do think its healthy to bring Joe down a few notches occasionally just to remind him that he's not a fighter. I still remember the time he had McCall (when he was good) and another fighter on and he was lecturing them on how "rubber guard is one of the best techniques in mma ever". Just the audacity of that LOL. Also I watch when he has scientists and stuff on who will refer to him as a fighter or "mma guy" or whatever and he never corrects them.
I was listening to him and Big John yesterday and he was saying his first fox event, the fox producers were trying to instruct him on commentating and he was like "man, if you have a ferrari, you don't have it back to the dealership and tell them you want it to sound like a honda" lol. His ego is out of control sometimes. He kept saying how commentating is the easiest job in the sport because he literally just has to talk, I'm like yea Joe because you are the one and only guy who doesn't research the fighters.

Lol Nate Diaz beats up some random audience member at a local bjj tournament. Good to see fatherhood has made him settle down and be less trashy!

Finally getting around to this Michael Chandler on JRE. Just as annoying as you guys claimed. I've heard him say how he is willing to die in the ring and nobody else is and that's his edge and if he and his opponent were vikings fighting to the death he would win, etc. etc. How he said that 20+ times in that episode when he basically tapped to strikes standing is beyond me. Am I misremembering that? IIRC Brooks did to him pretty much what Cerrone did to Makdessi or MVP did to Rickels. Just "I've had enough" standing, while not being dropped or anything. IDK if he knows what to the death means.

Ya I dont get it. He has been practicing karate and taekwondo for like 30+ years, and ya you watch him hit pads and compare it to other MMA fighters, his kicks are pretty damn impressive. Do I think some MMA fighters pump up his abilities some? Ya, but I also think a lot of them actually legitimately respect his kicks.

I was equally as annoyed by Chandler. But that Brooks fight wasn't a submission, I don't think. I think he just had some weird glitch in his consciousness...he genuinely seemed to not know where he was.
It seemed legitimate to me. :shrugs:

One kick is impressive. Against a target that is static. From a guy who doesn't have to train anything contraindicative to generating power. He's not sparring, he's not shadowboxing, he's not doing roadwork, he's not working on reflexes or timing, he's not going footwork or agility drills.
And he has been on HGH and TRT for 15 years.
He can generate power in his hips...so what? That does not make him a fighter and it is super obnoxious that he would ever step up to things like that kicking metric machine (as he recently posted), as if what he can do against a machine is comparable to what fighters do.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets/Etc., Vol. 4
I think Rogan has a very good sense of the person he is and in isolation, the kind of technique he has. He's well aware he's not a fighter and he's not stepping into the ring but he does have good kicking technique and I don't think he's trying to fool anyone into thinking that one technique he has will carry him into the pros.
I mean, if he's a guy who's practiced that kick for 30+ years, I sure as hell would expect him to be good at it. Is it something he could easily pull off in a real fight? Probably not and certainly not with the same level of power and accuracy but he's not trying to fool anyone.
It's like a soccer player with a really powerful kick, does that mean he's going to be a leading scorer in even regional competitions?

I may be confusing him with the Makdessi/Cerrone fight, I thought he just waved it off.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets/Etc., Vol. 4
Anyone know GSP's contract remaining with the UFC? Dana did one of his Dana things and said to a reporter that "GSP is retired" when GSP was talking about a Conor and Khabib fight, Dana acted like it was not only utterly impossible for GSP to make the weight and also claimed he was retired. I think Dana is kind of mad he can't coerce GSP but doesn't want to let him go to another promotion (or he could just be fronting again and will forget everything he mentioned when a good money fight shows up, and he doesn't want GSP coming in and killing draws like Conor vs. Khabib before they happen).
I'm not sure GSP has additional fights on his contract, and if he is I'm not sure the UFC is upholding offering him fights as required in most contracts, but I'm confused because before he came back last time GSP claimed he was free to fight at other promotions while Dana insisted UFC lawyers could block it.

I don't really care about PFL but it's pretty funny that Jake Shields is fighting some dude whose dad he already beat who knows how many years ago. Not a lot of guys like Sheilds but that says a lot about his longevity if nothing else lol.

This is probably way too deep into the wormhole of my nerdiness, but Mouse making a Dark Souls reference in an interview with Ariel made me LOL and a bigger fan.
