Can Devin Booker Win MVP next season

Post#1 » by SlovenianDragon » Tue Jun 26, 2018 10:42 pm

Lets say Ayton is who we think he is and takes a lot of pressure off Booker and Booker has a career year and we make the playoffs even as an 8th seed.

Would Booker leading the worst team in the league last season to bringing them to the playoffs this season be considered an MVP candidate?

I think so. Could be a career year for him.

Probably not, but I could see him making the All-Star team next year.

I personally would think of Booker as an MVP candidate, but usually you have to be on a top team. I think Westbrook was the first player in a while whose team wasn't in the top 4 of either conference or something. So i doubt he would get any credit from the league. He'd probably win MIP like Oladipo did this year

Depends on how many games we win. There is a path to 40 wins.

.....but I don’t know what teams are going to do about the Booker-Ayton connection. If these two, especially Ayton, are as good as I think they can be next season, we could win 50+ games. Not sure what PJ Tucker is going to do about a 7’1”, 260 pound freak who jumps like Zach LaVine and shoots like Towns.

Most importantly, since I get the impression that LeBron is headed to the Lakers, I would settle for beating LA at least once.

Nah and it's a little ridiculous to even ask. Let's calm down, k?

There's way too many beasts like Anthony Davis, Giannis, and a healthy K. Leonard who will lead their teams into the playoffs, put up monster stats while hitting their primes.

Booker is 21 years old.

All I want from him is better defense, slightly better stats (26ppg, 4.8rpg, 5.8 assists on 43% shooting, 39% from three) and an all-star nod and to be in the playoff hunt.

Im not saying he will be. Its just some off-season chatter.

But given the right circumstances....And leading the worst team in the league to a playoff team would for sure get some votes. IF not win.

AND IM NOT GOING TO CALM DOWN....SUNS 2018-19 HYPE.

All-star could be in the books (npi) for him. With Ayton being the #1 pick giving us more media love, he'll need to really play well in those nationally aired games and he might have a chance.

MVP is ridiculous though. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

No

after two crappy seasons

Goran Dragic led the Suns to 48 wins (which would be playoff worthy any other season except '14 and '08) and he got 3rd team honors

Steve Nash led the Suns to 62 wins and got MVP

He’s capable of making 3rd team which is why we should extend him now.

With Lilliard making 1st team all-NBA with no defense, I suppose 3rd team isn't out of the question...

All NBA? Yes.
All Star? Yes.

MVP? No.

The MVP award has become the "best player on the best team" award.

Unless we finish in 1st place and Booker averages 31/5/6, then...No.

Definitely could in his career, but this upcoming season is doubtful. Unless of course, Harden, Curry, Durant, Lebron, Westbrook, Davis, Greek Freak all miss the season with injuries.

No.

Maybe he'll be a top10 candidate in his prime if the Suns do well...

Devin Booker is the best player that we have had since Steve Nash, no question about it.

I really think that he can be an MVP during his career, but obviously next year is gonna be too soon.
He needs to be an All Star next season...I would be happy just with that.

it's looking to be that way, but still debatable

Goran Dragic had a very good season in '14, and as I stated above lead to the Suns to 48 wins, with a cast that wasn't much better than the past three seasons

Eric Bledsoe was an all around a better player then Booker in '17

and of course while it didn't pan out for the brief stint in PHX, Isaiah was a premier talent with the Celtics

despite that none of them where all-stars in Phoenix, and more importantly none of them brought the Suns to the playoffs

When Booker leads the Suns to the playoffs, he gets that distinction

None of those guys have close to the marketability of Booker though. So while I think we still need to be in the conversation for a playoff spot, I don't think he's too far away from an all-star spot. ALl those guys you've listed well into their 20's when they were at their peak (with the Suns) and while I thought Goran should've been an all-star that season he made 3rd team All-NBA, I don't think he's particularly popular among NBA fans. Likewise with Bledsoe, despite his 'mini-Lebron' nickname, nobody really cared about him outside of the 4-5 times a season he might make a top 10 highlight and he's got no personality. Isaiah certainly didn't blow up until he got to the C's. Booker is an entirely different animal when it comes to popularity, he's going to be 22 going into next season and he's already won the 3PT contest, put up 70 against the C's and was #10 in scoring in the league last season.
