We have Asik, Holiday, Lopez expiring next summer, plus decisions on Grant, Payne and Portis. We will have a lot of cap space. Then, we will still have max space in 2020 for a run at AD
i love the idea of anthony davis, but he is def going to get a supermax, i just dont think he is leaving new orleans on his own. he stands to lose a ton of money if he does. new orleans will def give him the supermax. i just dont think its a smart move to wait on him

Not a bad player to go after. Did a fine job in Utah last season but I bet he lost value with Cleveland barely using him. Wonder if he would accept a one year deal.?

Rodney Hood would be good in Fred's system...but he will want alot of touches...especially with Lavine on the court. Not sure if that is good pick. The Bulls need a defender and shooter...Hood doesn't view himself as a role player...

Most likely that's the kind of contract he will get. I don't see the Bulls offering him more than a 1year deal or any other team. I could see him betting on himself to get a bigger deal by signing for one year and trying to have a big year. Getting traded to Cleveland hurt his value due to no playing time.

Let’s not forget the guy can’t shoot. How much interest will he actually get? All teams are looking for shooters now especially at his position. I still want him back but again I just don’t see other teams targeting him,if bulls like him they should be able to keep him.

Signing other teams free agents to one-year contracts is almost useless because we will not have their bird rights at the end of the year. At least last time I checked the rule is that you cannot have changed teams as a free agent within the previous three years and have your current team retain bird rights.

His QO is nothing though. Literally 1.7 mil. Although he's not a good jump shooter he is pretty efficient and any team could beat the qualifying offer just by offering the room mle exception or the mmle or whatever.

You get non-bird rights and if you have enough space to overpay in year one (we do), you can sign a multi year deal the next year without using cap space for a lower amount.

What do you mean "without using cap space"?
Non bird free agents can be kept in excess of the salary cap, but like all free agents, they have a cap hold. Specifically 120% of their contract that just ended.
So if we sign a guy like Rodney Hood to a deal for say 10 mil, then next summer we have to renounce him to free up that money if we want to use it on an actual good free agent, and then lose Hood.

Re: Bulls Free Agency - Merged
F the "wing" concept. There are SG's and there SF's. SG's are the smaller ones who dribble more. SF's are the bigger ones who rebound more. If there's any positional merging it's between SF and PF these days. Point being that good teams don't trot out a third guy under 6'7. I know there are exceptions, but like many, I think we need another 6'7+ guy that we can trot out there.
Barring PG or Lebron, I don't think the FO wants a guy who comes in feeling entitled to the starting job or will pout if he's the back-up. Hood strikes me as a guy who doesn't feel entitled but has upside.
If the Bulls are keeping Lavine, which I realize they may not know until late in the offseason, it would be good if they could if they could pick one of Valentine or Nwaba to move forward with as the back-up SG. I gather that is the reason they are trying to keep Nwaba on a reasonable deal.
My expected scenario is that Lavine is underwhelmed by all offers and takes a 1+1 deal. As such, there's a decent chance he's gone next season. In which case, I'd be happy to have a 3rd decent SG.
Holiday, IMO, will be gone next season. I guess there's still Blakeney, but barring a major improvement, I can't see him being kept.
Grant, IMO is just a contract and 3rd string PG. Kilpatrick will be gone too.

Spurs want him back so he will probably be in San Antonio next season. I think he would be a good addition to the team.

Re: Bulls Free Agency - Merged
I think we are too hard on ourselves for failing to hit the home runs in free agency.
Our 1st major pitch in free agency was the year 2000 to Tracy mcgrady, what was he walking into? Tim floyd was our coach, we only previously won just 17 games our roster only had a very young Elton brand and Ron artest and by time mcgrady gets here to listen to our pitch,Orlando already had grant hill on board. We were def a tough sell and the 1st things mcgrady speaks on is wanting to win, I think we just went too early in free agency.
Later on we actually delivered on a big free agent when we landed Ben wallace.
When we went after LeBron wade, it was the same issues we had when we went after mcgrady, our potential was unknown outside of low playoff seed. Rose and Noah and Deng were very young and unproven and thibs was a new coach who hadn't coached 1 NBA game yet as a head coach. If free agency happened in let's say 2011 and LeBron and wade got to see mvp rose and thibs defense as a coach I think we land them, we were just a year too early, pat Riley was more proven.
I don't fault the front office for not landing Melo. I think that was a done deal but we tried to bring him in without giving him a max. Didn't want to part with taj. If we did that and could give him the money he wanted I think he would have signed here.
This time though , in 2019, we would be in a perfect spot to recruit free agents, the coach would be known, the talent we have here would have a season without tanking and have the ability to showcase the potential and we would be in a very weak east and one of only a few teams that can offer 2 max slots. Only other big city that could compete is NY and we would have an advantage based on porzingas coming off a major injury, frank nikilitina being a major disappointment and not much else on the ny roster. We have a plethora of young promising prospects. Plus 2 max slots so if a vet comes they wouldn't be alone. That is attractive. I think we should def go into free agency next off season. I think we we have a great shot of landing 2 guys.

Yeah he can play the 2-4 spots IMO. He’d be a solid pick up if the Spurs didn’t match.

Forget FA this season.
*Sign some guys from the G-league. Develop kids. Have a built in excuse for losses.
*Develop talent (Lauri,Zach,KD,Chandler,Bobby,Denzel,Cameron,Carter Jr,Nwaba)
*Let the kids play & lose, but admirably. Move the ball, take the first good available open shot. RUN. Continue to create fun atmosphere & culture to make players want to be apart of.
*Give Felicio/Grant/Payne/Holiday/Lopez minutes to build value for trade deadline deal.
*Acquire more draft picks.
Repeat this until FA 2020. After that offseason, We should be top 3 in the east w/ Philly & Boston for the forseeable future (or top 4, depending on where LBJ lands). Best young team in the east by far (of the non-playoff teams). Ahead of schedule.

Sign anyone to short-term or value deals. In current situation there’s little to no downside there as long as Fred is onboard with development being the key.
Rehabilitating guys like Hood and flipping them is EXACTLY what the team should do. But it’s all about what contract you sign them to.

One more thing, extend Bobby now. Price tag goes up higher if he becomes 6MOY. Looks leaner, quicker & will only get better.
