He's extremely raw in terms of 5 on 5 experience, with only 2 years of high school basketball in his entire life. But I think this makes the flashes of game sense he shows in terms of block timing, awareness of outlet opportunities in transition etc more impressive.

Even relative to his high school peers he was pretty underscouted and a late bloomer. He only really started to play on-the-map basketball in his junior year of high school when he moved from Pensacola, population 50k, to NOLA. In comparison, Ayton was scouted when he was 12, Bamba started playing basketball at age 6, Bagley got a scholarship at age 14 and most other top HS prospects played ball since before high school. Mitchell got into his first national showcase series in the summer after his junior year and vaulted himself into the top 10, and was praised as the best rim protecting big in the class. That's not just his physical talent, but the motor and block timing etc he showed in that series. You could say he was only scratching the surface of his potential and played up to his competition.

The only time he looked overmatched was when Ayton made some strength post moves on him that he wasn't strong enough to contend with, but generally when he played vs Ayton etc he played above the rim much more than the other guys and had good cuts to the basket for lobs, despite having way less game experience.

He does seem to have high hips though and that probably means he's not a switch everything player vs smaller guys, but he does have amazing close out speed and could disrupt a lot of shots recovering. His closeouts should be even better after he stops tripping over himself with the footwork.

Mitchell after 1 year of high school ball:

Robinson's is still growing taller and expanding his wingspan, but he has defensive instincts that are unrivaled by anyone in this year's class of big men. Only PSA Cardinals big man (maybe use center or forward)??? and Session 1 Defensive POTS Mo Bamba presents a similar array of defensive weapons.

Pro Skills head coach Jeff Webster isn't surprised by Robinson's ability to dominate on the boards or constantly block shots, calling the stud big man a phenomenal defender.

"He's a 7-foot beast that goes and gets anything in the paint," Webster said. "(Robinson) has an excellent second jump, and with his length, he completely changes the game."

https://www.d1circuit.com/news_article/show/641670

The Pro Skills big man showed off unrivaled interior defense throughout the weekend, making the paint his home and taking all comers. Robinson was a force under the basket, turning away several seemingly easy buckets and wiping the glass any time a shot was missed. Most impressively, however, was Robinson’s prowess on the other end, as he made 19-for-23 from the field through three games (you read that correctly) for an unreal 83.0 percent shooting percentage. Pro Skills was in every game they played in, and should continue to be competitive as long as this beast is on the floor.

Robinson is just a shy young man. You can see that in this after game interview:

Might have been mentioned in previous pages, but was a reason ever given as to why he pulled out of the draft combine. That's probably the main thing that concerns me. Why not go to try and raise your draft stock...

I'm pretty sure I remember reading something about him having an ankle injury. It might be all BS and he just didn't want to attend.

found some more material on him

https://gc.com/t/pro-skills-570d370d297f9e00016969d8/p/mitchell-r-5711d79e10c87d0001fed0f2/3shooting
Stats from some EYBL games where he played vs Ayton, Bamba etc.

Quick rise to 5 star status,
He needs strength but is the best shot blocker in 2017, has athleticism and rapidly improving offense.

We've always known that Robinson had the tools to be a high-level defender and rebounder thanks to his size, agility and quickness. However, how rapidly he's gone from potentially good on the defensive end to elite has been pretty surprising. He's the best shot blocker in 2017 and his instincts on the defensive end are impressive.

Though he's not Tim Duncan in the low post, Robinson isn't totally devoid of ability either. He's developing a nice little jump hook, has pretty good hands and is light on his feet around the rim.

https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/robinson-playing-his-way-to-five-star-status

Robinson showed up to play on the Adidas Circuit and was easily the most dominant big man at the Adidas Summer Championships. Not only was he blocking shots at an astounding pace, he was hitting mid-range jumpers and making it look easy on the offensive end. He will push for the national top five in 2017.

he seemed to ball out vs better competition. in high school he didn't need to do anything but dunk on people a foot shorter than him but when given the chance to play more versatile he did and wowed people. just gotta wait for summer league and see.

Love these draft picks. He has scary potential. If they figure this man is light on his feet and can guard 4's while KP is the 5 the NBA is in trouble. If Tim can be hungry on D under Fiz well gah damn. We switching it all lol.

will probably take him a year to get up to nba game speed but if he shows some sort of quick skill progression like he's shown to have at the recruiting level then he could be very interesting. low level of experience+big tools+quick learner is pretty good sign of future growth and ceiling

This is the most promising and exciting part of your post, particularly when you consider how late he started and how quickly he's progessed to this point. I'm not comparing him to the KD's and AD's but a tricked out DeAndre Jordan or, at best, on par with Embiid are within his reach.

He rebounds and block shots and can run the floor. I would take that alone from him. Do the dirty work. Him and KP togetehr with Frank at the point would be doing teams dirty on the defensive end. I want Frank to be great. The only way I take Kyrie is if Tim finna dip.

Lmao at Mitchell's weaknesses in that scouting report. Stuff that big man cant usually do.

Pros:

Strong finisher around the basket
Excels at scoring on the move
Adequate low post scorer
Decent shooter, has stretch big potential
Decent playmaker
Has very good hands
Solid rebounder
Adequate defensive player
Gifted shot blocker
Gifted athlete
Great size to play inside
Has a very long wingspan
Good motor
May have significant upside

Cons:

Inconsistent shooter
Must expand upon his low post moves
Needs to improve his free throw shooting
May need to tweak his shooting mechanics
May not be much of a ball handler
May tend to have lapses defensively
Can be foul prone
Missed a full season of basketball

So basically he's already a good big with his strengths. lmaooo.
