Hornets Sports Betting Thread

Post#1 » by 316Hornets » Wed Jun 27, 2018 4:42 am

Use this thread to discuss lines, futures, etc.

Looking at the futures, the Hornets are 500-1 in a lot of places to win the championship. This seems like a great bet to make since we aren't rebuilding. Anyone else going to get in on this? Obviously Cliff and Dwight were two of the worst, so the team will only improve this year. With the Eastern Conference perhaps depleted of talent after Lebron goes to LA, Hayward ankle issues, this is a legit shot at better than 500-1 for the Hornets to win imo.

You can argue we should have better odds, but I would definitely say there are better bets to be made.

Just imagine if Bron goes West. The West will destroy each other and we'll be going against rookies and novice players. If Batum actually gets in shape, addition by subtraction, and Kemba & Lamb[contract years] light it up for the money, Hornets have a shot that I would put closer to 50-1.

I'm speechless. We are not winning a championship this year.

In all seriousness, the odds should be 500-1 for every team outside of GS, Houston, and whatever superteam LeBron, PG and/or Kawhi create. Maybe give Boston 250-1 odds if they don’t get Kawhi. Teams like Portland, Toronto, Utah and essentially everyone else should have the same odds as us, which is they have no shot at winning the title.

do they have odds on making the playoffs? I'll probably never bet on anything Hornets related ever again- knowing my luck we'll probably be on a 50-win pace but if I bet on the Hornets making the playoffs we'll probably lose three starters to season ending injuries in March and never win another game and miss the playoffs- but a playoff berth is probably the only Hornets related thing worth betting on if LeBron goes west and Kemba isn't going with him.

You're wasting your money if you're betting against Golden State, Houston, or wherever LeBron is, maybe Boston too. Outside of those four teams, nobody even has an outside shot.

I'm no betting man but I would think even 50000 to 1 odds would be too low for the Hornets winning the finals.

So if every Hornet player plays at their peak performance and the coach turns out to be a genius, you seriously give it that low of a chance? Not even in 50000 years running the same teams, it wouldn't happen once? I'm willing to admit to not know it all, but I know that there are situations in which this team is capable of playing good basketball. 2 years ago, with a healthy Zeller, we were playing some of the best basketball in the league. This team doesn't look much worse than that one. And, with the dead weight gone, actually has a chance of doing something this season. It'll take everybody by surprise because they think we have these loaded contracts of bad vets, but truthfully, it was more the system and not the player that was stunting development and winning ballgames.

Correct. I'm as high on this team as anyone, and I think there are zero circumstances where we win a championship this season.

Yet we didn't get out of the first round.

Clifford is not the difference between this team getting bounced in the first round and winning a championship.

That team didn't even make it past the post-LeBron Miami Heat. We got torched by old man Wade and Luol **** Deng. I'll hold out hope for a hard fought playoff series in the 1st round, possibly even a 2nd round showing depending on the matchup, but there is no way we are anywhere close to the Finals let alone a championship. That is total crazy talk.

Sorry, a lot of people are just recreational gamblers and I can understand the thought process that betting on the Hornets to win a championship would be idiotic.

That said, the 500-1 odds for the Hornets is extremely low and good value right now. Taking this bet, you'd be able to hedge later on if they went farther in the playoffs by betting for the other team to win games.

I do think this team has an ability to gel together and be a top 5 seed. If Bron goes West, I do not see any particular team that is going to be dominate in the East. Our team is full of veteran players that have been around each other for awhile. This is professional sports and all of these guys are competitive. I don't think any of them are sitting at home right now thinking about what they are going to do when they retire. They all want to show that they are winners and as we've seen in the past, it's not always talent that carries teams.

The best bet this year that is Hornets related would probably be Borrego for Coach of the year. This could happen if we were to surprise and get a top 3 or 4 seed in the east

How the Hornets win the finals. So somehow we play out of our minds and end up with a number 3 seed. Meanwhile LeBron has gone west to join the Lakers along with someone else maybe Paul George. The Celtics get the first seed with the Sixers getting the second seed. The Sixers run into a tough matchup in the first round and somehow get bounced out of the playoffs by number seven seed Washington. We win a tough fought match up and advance to the second round where we Face Washington. As you know we've pretty much dominated Washington over the years so we managed to get by Washington. Meanwhile Toronto the fourth seed somehow knocks off Boston the number one seed. As you know we've had a pretty good record versus Toronto over the years and we somehow when a tough matchup against the Raptors to advance to the finals in a miracle. Meanwhile in the West Golden State knocks LeBron out of the playoffs but not before losing Kevin Durant to a nasty knee injury. Then in game 1 of the finals Steph Curry rolls his ankles in game 1 and he's out for the rest of the playoffs. That leaves a confident Hornets team fighting against Green and Thompson. We managed to sneak out a win and game 7 due to some horrendous officiating and green getting injected in the second quarter. Everyone who bet on Hornets in Las Vegas now has a lot more money in their pockets.

This is how I think about betting. If I put down $100 on the Hornets to win the title, how much money would I expect to win.

Right now, I would think I should get about $5 million dollars for betting that right now. So that's like 50,000 to 1. That's about right.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

If I put down $100 on the Hornets I'd expect to win $0.

Just put $2 to win $150 on the Hornets winning the Eastern Conference. Beers are on me when Embiid cries that Kemba is too good.
