Conspiracy theory: LeBron's ancestry

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Wed Jun 27, 2018 12:59 pm

There are plenty of interesting conspiracy theories in the NBA but one of them has caught my attention.

Where did LeBron's genes come from?
We all know James has hit the genetic lottery in terms of size, athleticism, intellect. He picked up the game of BBall late and looked like he was born to play it.
It's hard to imagine those genes haven't played the NBA game before.

There are videos on youtube that mention who his father is, a guy named Roland Bivens who changed his name to Anthony McClelland. And I think that all seems likely given the photos and location.

This thread is about the conspiracy that his father is Nate Thurmond.

The similarities come in that they are both two of the most physically gifted athletes in the NBA ever, both have the same hairline and are both from Akron, Ohio. The similarities are interesting but the hairline comments bugged me.

I do believe that LeBrons hairline would be the same as Nate's or very similar without modern cosmetic enhancements.

Truthfully, what bugged me about this theory was that baldness genes are largely inherited on the X chromosome and are therefore from the mothers side (the mothers father is the best indication).

I wondered, what if Nate Thurmond wasn't LeBron's father but was actually the father of his mother.... LeBrons grandfather.

I did some digging and 9 months prior to Gloria's birth aligns with the NBA offseason when a young Nate may have gone home to Akron to visit family.

They share similar face shapes, cheek-bones and around the eye area. If someone told you they were father and daughter you would see it.

It's only ever mentioned that LeBron had a grandmother named Freda James. No mention of a grandfather or whether James is her last name or a deceased husband.
Gloria has two brothers but she is older than both and looks quite different to them. It's possible they are from a different man with the "James " last name.

I guess what I'm thinking is that if you did want to make the case that Nate Thurmond is related to James then it makes much more sense that it's his grandfather, from a time/location perspective but also a genetic trait perspective.

Anyway, I thought this was novel. I've never seen anyone post about this in the light that Nate may be LeBron's grandfather. I just wanted to put it out there in case people were interested. It's unlikely this would ever come out or be proven, purely speculation with a ton of bias.

TL;DR
If you believe Nate Thurmond is related to LeBron then he's much more likely to be the father of Gloria James.

I remember last year there was a thread about which nba players would be good boyfriends for long term relationships

Yep

The NBA should take note, the stupid delayed NBA awards did nothing to tide us over.

Look at that picture of old man Nate Thurmond back in the mid 70's and how vascular / muscular he is. He's more vascular than Lebron even. While some elite body builders were taking some crappy steroids back then it's highly doubtful Thurmond was. Point is there are plenty of examples of just genetically muscular players. I doubt 35 year old Thurmond was even busting his ass lifting weights given the time period when the prevailing thought was weights were bad for basketball players.
