It's really not that bad. Also, I think we all take sports a little too seriously. We need to get a life.

Lol I don't think this board is as bad as people are implying. It's not like threads are filled with constant disrespect and name calling. I just see a lot of passionate fans with strong opinions and are having fairly healthy debates (isnt that the point of message boards). I highly doubt anyone here is letting the hornets crappiness take over their life and cause them depression. It is just frustrating to see a team squander opportunities and be stuck in mediocrity, and a Hornets board is the best place to talk about frustrations with a team. At the end of the day though, I don't let it damage my personal life, it also helps to see Charlotte boy Steph Curry run around out winning championship and breaking records :D

That actually hurts like hell and makes me depressed! :(

At least we didn't pass on him in the draft. Then it would *really* hurt.

He's a great pick: I would have been very happy if the 76ers had of picked him at 10. Congrats.

You are right that at least we didn't whiff on him in the draft but I live in Hornets Country but not in the city of Charlotte and I just don't feel attached to him at all, maybe it is because he plays on one of the most hated teams in NBA history, sour grapes etc. but of course I loved PaPa Dell and still do but I only care for Seth of his boy children because he went to Duke.

Kind of depends on what you consider best I'd say. As crap as the ESPN draft coverage was, they did say they thought he was the best dunker in the draft.

He doesn't have a lot of finesse that I've seen but he is a very quick explosive jumper and finishes with authority. Kind of apples and oranges when compared to someone like Lavine. Looking forward to him taking Dwight's role of catching lobs and put-backs. As much as I enjoyed watching Dwight do it this season it will be even cooler watching a 6'7" guy rise up.

Interesting pre-draft article from the Stepien: https://www.thestepien.com/2018/05/19/ball-handling-passing-defensive-versatility-wings-2018-draft/

Borne out of the MIKAL Bridges comparisons to Otto Porter and Robert Covington as top 3&D prospects, the author sought to compare many of the top wings in the draft to those vets and then ranked the players according to their proficiency over three key categories for wing players: ball handling, passing, and defensive versatility.

(The numbers didn't show up below, but they're ranked 1-11 in each category.)

Ball Handling
Miles Bridges
Troy Brown
Kenrich Williams
Kevin Huerter
Lonnie Walker
Jacob Evans
Otto Porter
Josh Okogie
Mikal Bridges
Robert Covington
Zhaire Smith

Passing
Kenrich Williams
Kevin Huerter
Jacob Evans
Zhaire Smith
Otto Porter
Troy Brown
Miles Bridges
Mikal Bridges
Josh Okogie
Lonnie Walker
Robert Covington

Defensive Versatility
Robert Covington
Miles Bridges
Troy Brown
Jacob Evans
Kevin Huerter
Josh Okogie
Zhaire Smith
Otto Porter
Mikal Bridges
Lonnie Walker
Kenrich Williams

Ball Handling/Passing/Defensive Versatility
(average of 3 ranks, ties broken subjectively)
Miles Bridges
Troy Brown
Kevin Huerter
Jacob Evans
Kenrich Williams
Otto Porter
Zhaire Smith
Robert Covington
Josh Okogie
Lonnie Walker
Mikal Bridges

Some other notes:

As the rankings will show, Miles Bridges and Troy Brown are the other two big winners (along with Huerter) from this evaluation. Reviewing film for this piece bolstered my opinion on each of them. Bridges is a player to whom I am giving serious consideration as a top-5 player in this draft, especially after his better-than-expected combine measurements improved his projection as an interior defender.

(Zhaire Smith) and Miles Bridges are clearly the top two overall prospects in this group for me.

With his combination of excellent handling, passing vision and execution on the move, and his ability to switch onto smaller players and at least anchor against bigger ones, Miles Bridges looks like an outstanding prospect when evaluating ball-handling, passing, and defensive versatility. His subpar off-ball IQ on defense is a definite wart, but his elite athleticism at least gives him some upside as a secondary rim protector. When considering his creation abilities as well as his improved shooting off the ball, Bridges looks like a dynamic offensive prospect with the potential to add versatility and switchability on defense, particularly if he can dial up his engagement off the ball.

Speaking of bridges, did any of you see the video floating around of mikal shooting threes the other day? He's developed this weird hitch in his shot and his delivery looked really slow. I think some of the Suns fans were freaking out of it.

In the compilation above, Bridges first locks up a quicker point guard in Joel Berry before forcing athletic 6-foot-9 forward Oshae Brissett into a bad attempt off the bounce. Bridges has great quick-twitch muscles that allow him to change directions quickly when moving laterally, and his thick frame allows him to body perimeter players and cut them off to prevent them from getting into the lane.

While Bridges grades as good-but-not-great in terms of defensive versatility, his handle is very impressive for a player with his physical tools. The montage above shows him breaking down a defense out of the pick-and-roll as he flashes quick change-of-direction ability with a crossover in the first clip, his burgeoning ability to hit jumpers off the bounce in the second clip, and his ability to punish bigs on an island when he gets a favorable switch thanks to his dribble moves and quickness to get to the rim. I won’t spoil the rest of this piece, but Bridges’ functional handle is at least as good as any other player in the group that we are examining.

The two plays in the clip above show a couple more examples of Bridges’ ability to break down defenses with his handle, but they also back up the stats that say he has improved as a passer this season. After posting more turnovers than assists as a freshman, he cut turnovers and improved his assist numbers to the tune of a 1.37-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. The first clip is particularly impressive as he shows the vision to locate an open Matt McQuaid in the corner and the strength to execute a cross-court one-handed pass to his left while going right.

Good read, but I'm a little confused here because these statements seem to directly contradict much of what has been said by the Miles haters in this thread. If I'm not mistaken the biggest knocks on him (apart from his size) have been his lateral quickness, ball handling and play making. You guys should email these fools and give them the whats-what!

I think the differing views on Miles' handling may stem from his ambidexterity. Shoots lefty, likes to finish and dribble right. Most acknowledge his current handling level is good but some see it as slightly underwhelming because of his unique versatility while others see it as reason for potential improvement in that area.

More on that here: http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/article/-6392183854281027403/michigan-state-michigan-recruiting-war-isnt-ruining-5-star-basketball-prospect-miles-bridges-teenhood/

"We first found that out when he couldn’t make his mind up of what hand he wanted to write with,” Rushing said. “You would see him writing with the right hand and the next minute he’s writing with his left. I would ask, ‘What are you doing? Are you not trying to confuse yourself?’”

His parents were confused when they noticed him shooting with his left hand and writing with his right. In basketball, he uses that to his advantage. “Defenders don’t know which side I’m going to,” Bridges said. “They won’t be able to force me right or left. They can’t figure it out.”

That's actually, IMO, one of the great things about him. I think finishing/driving with either hand is a vastly underrated skill. Things like that and his functional strength and solid overall game really separate him from most rookies in my eyes. He certainly has some warts but I still grow more and more excited about him after every video or article I see, especially for a 12th pick.

Yep, his biggest wart being that he was a sophomore that had a really good freshman campaign. He still improved, but I maintain that if he had underwhelmed his freshman year we would be talking about how potential-laden he is after such a huge improvement from year to year (not unlike the other Bridges). But then he'd go top 7 and we wouldn't get the chance to get him.

The extra 3 inches of hair will help him look taller to play some small ball PF.

I think he can be a stronger J Harden he just needs to work on his shot and dribble to the rim game.

New interview from Vegas is up.

Borrego is gushing about Miles. "Big time player...high bbIQ....can guard multiple positions, rebounds well...shoots it better than I thought"

Makes me wonder if JB is gonna give him a lot of minutes early on

Was listening to The Ringer NBA podcast and they were comparing Donovan Mitchell to Miles Bridges and how they're both athletic two-foot leapers and how Mitchell spent the offseason before his rookie year learning how to jump off one foot and how much that has opened up his game around the rim. Something Miles and our staff should be focusing on this offseason.

It would be nice to see a strong finish to summer league from Miles. I know the SL is mostly meaningless, but the guy we traded has been tearing it up and has set the bar pretty high.

His biggest issue I noticed in the little bit of playing time I saw was that he just seemed a bit jittery/nervous. Hopefully he can put up a couple dominant games now that he has seemed to settle in a little more.
