Look at the positions McD is targeting and the play last year for PG and the 4:
PG: Bledsoe, James, Canaan, Ulis, Payton
4: Bender, Chriss and what seemed to be an out of shape Dudley
I think we are all just trying - at this point - to get BETTER - maybe not All Star but better, With the thought that if they do get better - Bender, Chriss, Okobo now at PG - will have to earn minutes and not be granted them.
I don't think any of these guys are really improvements. There are a lot of guys who are effective in short burst but are likely to be exposed if given more time on the floor.
I'd rather roll with the youngsters. I mean, most of these guys in free agency are going to get PAID, and/or are looking for multiple years. I just don't see anyone worth investing so much in, other than the big names who aren't coming to Phoenix.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I’m leaning towards this idea myself though I think we could do it without giving up the Bucks pick, maybe. I like the idea of Kemba, Booker and Ayton as our big 3 while Bridges and JJ are the glue guys. If Ayton pans out to be what he is supposed to be then we can hang with anyone talent-wise. Only thing left is experience.

I'd much rather pay Kemba than Aaron Gordon, and you need a top 10 PG to do anything in the playoffs...not really the case with PF, especially with versatile big men like bender and ayton

I will try better - we can trade for Ryan Anderson
No we can't. Bobby, you have proposed some interesting and possible trade ideas in the past. Sorry, but these aren't among them.
Thanks JD - fair enough
I will say - I just did a quick review with Capulator and signing two guys a PG and PF, one year deals for 12m combined in free agency, so keeping Williams -and than next year, renouncing these two guys, Daniels, Dudley, Chandler and Williams , extending Booker too, the team would have approximately 17m - so maybe if the right longer term fit is not there, roll with that idea , But in liue of that - if you sign the right player longer term using Chandler or Dudley - that might work as well.
I don't mind - if Gambo is right that Smart and Rondo are not options.

Is Kemba a top 10 PG? I would say no. He's a good player but only made the all star team because he is in the East. I don't know who I would prefer between Kemba and AG. AG is improving and has a few years of development left before he hits his prime at least. Kemba is more of a position of need though.
I wouldn't get upset if we traded for Kemba, but I don't see him as the overall needle mover many do. I would be much more okay signing him as an FA next offseason since we'd only be giving up cap space.

Charlotte is not trading Kemba, and if they do its going to take more than what you suggest, even though I wouldnt give up that much, there is no way they trade him for that package, some combo of Warren, or JJ, Chriss or Bender and our 1st round pick protected top 5. other than that there is no chance and thats way to much to give up. All that to say Kemba aint happening...

What number do you think Smart wears next season?
Have to hope this is true. Despite the apparent fan boys of Smart, signing him at 8 figures annually would immediately make him the worst contract on the team. He makes Brandon Knight look like James Harden on offense. I don't care how good a defender you are, you can't be that type of liability on offense. We need shooting and defense, which is why 3 and D guys need to be the priority. We need both shooting and defense in the same player. No more half measures/one way guys.

I didn't make a trade offer for Kemba...I would not trade much though because I personally am all aboard the 1 year vet route to punt FA to next season, and we can simply sign Kemba (or one of the other really good available PGs in next year's class) next season. I am not sure I would personally move the MIlwaukee pick for him just because of his contract status and our potential cap space.

I'd rather secure our PG of the future now via trade than leave to chance next year when more teams have cap space. We would need to cut salary anyways for Booker and Kemba extensions, so TJ is odd man. Now, I would NOT take on batum's contract if that's what CHA is pushing.

Kemba would be a UFA next summer even if we traded for him so we would have to compete against competing offers anyways. It's not like trading for him guarantees he stays here. We would likely have to outbid everyone else for his services. I'm not even sure we would be allowed to extend him early under the CBA.

Yeah, Gambo said that he has heard that Rondo is looking for a $8M - $10M contract and he wants multiple years.
Smart is expensive too and the Suns prefer a playmaker, and they do not think that Smart is good at that.

There is nothing on offense that an NBA team could honestly think Smart is good at. He is that bad on that end.

Gambo just surmising that Ulis might be traded by the end of the week - if not, he thinks Ulis will be released.
So, based on Smart and Rondo out. Probably leaves Van Fleet, Evans, one of the two Clipper guards - as PG for rotation.

I say just wait for the fallout with LAC. If Deandre is moved I think they release at least 1 of those guys.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
I don't think Kemba makes any sense, given how high the FO is on Brandon Knight. If he returns to the form he briefly showed in Milwaukee, how different is he from Kemba? Don't we want a player who provides something else? We certainly shouldn't want those two to share the court at any time - and this would be a real problem if we acquired Kemba and kept Knight, given that those two and Booker would form the core of our backcourt rotation.
Given the $$$ he would require (and it would only make sense to give up anything of value for him if we were pretty sure we would re-sign him), BK's contract is clearly preferable in both the short- and long-term. If the FO is right about Knight, this is a no-brainer. Furthermore, if the FO is right about Knight, I wouldn't trade him for Kemba straight up! And if the FO is wrong about Knight and he suuuucks, then certainly we shouldn't expect we'd be able to deal him for Kemba without giving up substantial additional assets - and we shouldn't!!
If you're interested in acquiring an overpaid PG, just go with Lowry. At least then you'd have two years of production instead of one. And if you're interested in Kemba at the max, perhaps I could interest you in John Wall??
The Kemba talk needs to be laid to rest. It is a bad idea.
