Jerry West is the one who made the trade.
Doc has no control over who is traded.

Correct. The Lakers are not trying to get more veterans, they would want pure cap space. If they cleared enough, maybe they are interested in a super cheap piece, but definitely not matching salary they are sending out. Completely defeats the purpose.
Agreed - but I don’t think eating Dengs contract alone is going to be enough. We’d have to throw in some assets. Which I’m absolutely for. Ingram seems like a really nice fit with this core. I’d be really content moving forward

Ingram is the sweetener to take on Dengs contract. The less salary goes back, the less value they get back. They'd be lucky to get Portis for Ingram and Deng

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
The CAP expert on ESPN just ran down the Lakers plans to make enough money for PG and Lebron and said that the Lakers would want to keep Igram and Randle if possible. He said that to get rid of the Deng contract they would include "multiple" first rounders. So for now we can stop talking about Ingram and start talking about if taking Deng's contract would be worth 2 late first rounders. He specifically mentioned the Hawks as a team to watch.

Doc keeps Austin around and it's labelled nepotism, Doc trades his son and he's apparently done his kid dirty.

Ingram is a nice piece that makes sense for Bulls...any trade with Lakers would require protections over picks...my thought would be two first round picks in the top ten...it keeps rolling until provided..because Paul George and LeBron..may make that team competitive for several years...I would not be interested in any picks during their tenure.

I might do that. I think I'd prefer whatever year the 1 and done rule expires though.

If it's going to be "multiple 1st round picks" from the Lakers, I want them to be far out. Those picks project to the mid-late 20's if Lebron and George go there. Houston, Boston, and GSW are the only teams that will reliably win more games than them.

Everyone is loading up cap space for next summer's bump in salary cap. Given where we are in the cycle, I would say it makes sense to take on 2-year dead contracts from the highest bidders.

I understand how this works, but Ingram is more valuable than a sweetener for a salary dump. It's wishful thinking to think we'd be able to acquire him simply by absorbing a bad contract. We're only even having this discussion because they may need to clear salary for max dollars this summer, otherwise there'd be no chance.

The problem LA is going to run into is they don’t have much in between. Ingram might be too valuable, but I don’t think Ball or Kidman is valuable enough. And their future picks won’t be very valuable either.

Yep, agreed. Which puts us in a nice position because I dont think we would be able to swing a trade for them otherwise. But given the circumstance, gives a realistic shot if they do get to that point where they need to clear space.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
According to press reports the Lakers are under heavy pressure to land Leonard and also add LeBron and/or Paul George. There has to be a package we can put together to get Ingram and Deng. Maybe something like Portis or Valentine, Felicio and Fitzpatrick. Ingram would be as good as any SF we'd be able to draft next year if we slip into the playoff picture like I think we can. He'd help us right away. Portis or Valentine would be cheap bench help if the Lakers put together a Big-3 team. Including Felicio still saves the Lakers a big cap hit and removes him for our roster where he has no real role going forward. The Lakers can cut Fitzpatrick because his contract is not guaranteed. Deng's contract is an albatross but it's off the books in two years. We can use him as something like a player-assistant coach. Like a player emeritus. It's a win-win for both teams. We get the best player in the deal but reducing salary is more important for the Lakers at this point.

Only issue here is that any trade with San Antonio has to start with Ingram and probably also Kuzma. Future Lakers picks just aren't that valuable.

I'd say a trade for Ingram is a best case scenario for the remainder of the summer.

If Leonard reconciles with San Antonio, does LA still need to clear cap room to sign two max free agents in James and George?

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
LaVine aside, I want to hold off on making any offers on free agents early in the summer. I think we should wait and see who gets desperate to shed cap room later in the summer, either due to the need to clear salary for trades or to lower their cap hit.

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
LA will not include Ingram in a Deng dump because they need him included in a potential Kawhi deal.
Spurs are not interested in Ball so if something goes down its Ingram/Kuzma/etc. for Kawhi. Lakers can still wait another year and sign Kawhi in FA in summer of 2019, that is if a deal cant be made.
