Scrrrrap innnnnzzz. It's starting!
We match 20. We just gotta see if Thad will opt out because that could make it more if they REALLY want him.

We have to match anything. Then move him if we want to go that route, or keep him if it's a legit good contract and he plays well.

Hope it doesn’t come to him getting an offer sheet. He said it the other day too, hope they can come to an agreement quick and we get the extra 5th year on him. For a reasonable salary, obviously.

I hope they try and sell him on only 4 years by telling him he can opt out earlier to cash in. Less of a gamble but we can reward him if he pans out.

Thad Young would be crazy dumb to opt out of 13M at the age of 30..
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Yeah unless he wants off that team he won't. I think he likes it there. We are in a decent position here with AG.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
I would actually rather have him come with an offer sheet than max him right away. Our max is a lot more than the Pcers can offer.
Only down side is, We are restricted from trading him in his first year. Which might come back to haunt us if the Isaac/Ag/Bamba dont work.

I think even if he did opt out, it’d only be if they were to re-sign him to a longer deal like 4/40. Indy loves him, I doubt they’d renounce him or let him go to another team.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
I hope the Magic don't throw him a max. He's my favorite player on the team right now but he is not a max player yet. Let another team come in and make their best offer and match. Has it's downsides but at least we won't be committing to more money than we should.

I would prefer us to get him to bring an offer too. There is no need to overpay unless he wants a 5th year at a lower rate (20 million?). In response to the no-trade clause in the first year, I think we don't have to worry about that too much. It is highly unlikely that both Isaac and Bamba will start together next year. I anticipate Bamba coming off the bench and possibly Isaac as well unless he has improved dramatically on offense (not out of the question).

Can’t lose an asset for nothing. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be super pissed off if we were stuck with a difficult to move max contract AG.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
Rarely are these player reasonable. Him asking for max would be because he can, not because it's earned. His production is on par with Evan, so a deal similar to his would be warranted. He will try and get more though. I just hope they don't upset/offend him in all of this with an offer he considers low, so that's why I'd prefer to let him get an offer sheet. That and I would rather not do the 5th year.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
I could support a 4 year 80 mil deal for Gordon. He’s not a max money (30 mil) level of talent. He’s a high-talent role player and I hope the magic let him shop.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
I’m increasingly open to the idea of an Aaron Gordon sign and trade that brings back a 1st round pick and a player on his rookie contract.
Get the Isaac/Bamba era started up front and allocate AG’s earmarked funds to addressing the PG position somehow.

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
The problem with letting him go are the contracts we would still be stuck with. If we go max it should be two years with a team option third.

Does Indy have a 1st, and what player on their team would you want on their rookie contract?

If Pacers get Gordon and he becomes allstar, would that demote Magic into Pacers G league team?

Re: Aaron Gordon Free Agency
If Thad Young opts out (13.7 mil), buy out Al Jefferson only 4 mil of 10 mil guaranteed, decline option on Joe Young 1.6 mil and Poythrees 1.6 mil plus already decline Lance's 4.3 mil, the Pacers would have almost 38 mil in cap room. So if they wanted they could go far higher for an offer to Aaron Gordon.
