I would only be ok with Lonzo if his dad angered Sarver so much that he sold the team.

You'd be plenty happy watching Lonzo on the fast break getting buckets dishing to Bender or Booker in the corner for 3, playing good defense, rebounding, basically a young Jason Kidd in the making.

No. I would not be happy.

I'm not sure how anyone could look at the suns roster and have watched jarbai play defense and think signing him is a good idea. And then there's the whole two torn acl thing.

Right his lack of defense on this team would be a bad fit. Plus the cost. Plus the two ACLs. Keep walking

I don't understand the VanVleet love.I was listening to 98.7 yesterday, and one of the host was gushing about this guy.Went and looked up his stats.....8 pts 3 assist and 42% FG

That's not all that impressive. His 3pt numbers look good, but still. What am I missing here?

This probably is more about what-ifs. I don't think he's a real option for us. Especially with Warren on the roster. I hope he goes to the Kings are rumored. They could use a scorer like him.

The kings are weird so who knows but he seems like a horrid horrid fit with Bagley. Not sure how those two could be on the court at the same time. Might be the worst defensive front court ever assembled.

He backed up Lowry so there is that thought of can he handle starter or close to starter minutes - but the defense from what I recall is solid and the shooting pct like you said from 3 pt is good.

The Cavs went after him whenever he was on the floor in the playoffs. It's the problem you face with even great defensive small guards - can't recover to shooters, can't handle big wings on a switch. But then again, there aren't a ton of PGs out there that don't have this problem (but see Holliday, Smart), and for the most part, they try to compensate with great outside shooting (see Curry, Collinson, VanVleet).

Looks like the rest of the league understands the value this guy brings. Spurs fans certainly aren't keen on letting him leave.

I can see Len doing this so that he gets more spotlight on a team with more national games and attention so that he can try and get paid the summer after.

For the reasons you list about Van Fleet, Collison, smaller PGs - Suns have to at least make a call to Smart. I get the shot - what 30% ---its pretty bad. But the defense is there, floor general stuff or was that Stevens. Still , worth a call

Beverly - truly the best target next to Booker. Wonder what the Clippers would take. One year deal - but he would be ideal.

The advanced stats. So while he isn't a physical specimen by any means he is a great positional defender and thus rates really well on that end, combined with the 41% 3 point shooting. He is also super heady, so he doesn't turn the ball over. So basically, you have an elite 3 point shooter with good to great defense and low turnovers. He nearly won 6th man of the year last year.

I don't know if he can be the starter. I think if we got him he would start because he is clearly better than our other options, but he probably is best positioned to be an elite 6th man or 5th wheel starter. He works for our purposes though. Whether it is a good signing or not would depend on the price. We'd still have to hope Okobo turns into the starter long-term imo.

It's not just pretty bad. It is the worst shot for a PG in 30 years. Modern basketball has not seen a worse shooting PG. Not just that but his passing is not great and neither are his turnovers, so yeah, he's a disaster on offense.

VanVleet is a really good defender. The gap between his defense and Smart's is not what you would think, although Smart is obviously fantastic on that end. Meanwhile, the gap between the 2 offensively is enormous.

If the Kings start a frontcourt of Bagley and Parker I will make them mandatory viewing on league pass just to laugh at the defense played by those 2.

Return to Phoenix Suns
