I think we should take a look at McDermott. Guy is a lights out shooter. Would open up things offensively I'd imagine. Pair him with WCS if we can to help some with switches and defensive liabilities.

And Garrett Temple, who played a ton of 3 for us last year, is just 1 inch taller and 13 pounds lighter than Lavine.

Lavine's actually a better shooter than Hezonja and is a lot better at creating his own shot. Fox-Bogi-Lavine-Bagley-WCS would easily be the most athletic starting 5 in the league. If you sign Lavine i guess you hope Temple opts in so you can play him when some of the better offensive small forwards (lebron, pg etc) come to town.

Would be exciting if nothing else.

Why would someone support that and not Buddy/Bogdan starting?

Buddy is a starter

Bogdan/Buddy are more SF than LaVine, and better players

Buddy is a starter? Since when? I'm not gonna go back to the same ol buddy starting argument but if he plays better off the bench and the coaching staff prefers him coming off the bench then he's by all means not a starter...and that's not a bad thing. It seems like he could average 35 minutes per gm off the bench and people would still be up in arms.

If we are going to win more games we need to make somewhat drastic changes. Everyone seems so high on a nucleus of Fox/Buddy/Bogi but as likeable as they are that combo won us 27 games last year. Bagley is a start but we need to shoot for the stars. Lavine still has some star potential.

Offensively, adding Lavine could definitely work but defense is the question. Maybe our coaching staff is content with Bogi guarding small forwards. i admittedly haven't watched a ton of Lavine since he came in the league but magic fans seem to think he's horrid on defense - which is a major concern if you're also starting Bagley and Willie.

Here is a question for everyone: who would you rsther have playing SF: Bogi, Parker, or Hezonja?

With Bogi you get Lavine playing SG and taking all of Mason's minutes at PG. Kings backcourt is better with Lavine.

Don't trust Parker's injury history nor what he will get paid so he's off my list.

Don't trust Lavine's injury history either, nor willing to invest what it would cost.

I'd rather have McDermett over Mario myself. But if we did grab Mario I'd let him start and Jackson get a little burn. Probably would close games out with Hield & Bogi as the 2,3's

Sometimes Shump may be an option at the 3 too.

Please no overpay for Hezonja.

Anything above $8m/yr would be awful.

That’s a really large question. If you pay Lavine, then you are strapped to having smaller defenders. The team struggled guarding size on the wing last season and Lavine doesn’t help that one bit. Parker helps with size, but not with quick players. He would have a better chance than Lavine slowing the Durants of the world. That said, he isn’t the greatest defender. Both of these guys are also injury risks. We don’t know how well either of them will rebound their careers in the coming years. I would bet on Parker being the better player though, just because he really seems like an intelligent dude, whereas Lavine doesn’t.

And then there is Hezonja. I’m not a fan of his defense. He can stay in front of his man a bit, but that side of the court isn’t really his strong suit. If he was to be signed, he would be a lot cheaper than the other two guys here so the investment wouldn’t be as huge.

There are big questions with all three of these guys. I’d rather the Kings wait and just take on salary for picks if there are any takers. I would even rather see them target a different player in a trade (Oubre, Harkless, Porter).

Taking salary assumptions, skill, fit, star potential, and risk into consideration, I’d probably pick Parker>Hezonja>Lavine.

In Zach Lowe's latest piece, he says the Kings might be willing to take in salary for a draft pick
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23938913/zach-lowe-nba-free-agency-preview-lebron-james-paul-george-kawhi-leonard
The legacy of the 2016 cap spike and resulting spending orgy: Only a half-dozen or so teams have pathways to meaningful cap space, and three of them -- Atlanta, Chicago and Sacramento -- are signaling they plan to use it to take on bad salary and extract draft picks as the price, sources say. (That is a particularly interesting, and smart, decision for the Kings, considering they don't own their 2019 pick and as a result have some incentive to compete. But they have zero chance of being good and should look at the lost pick as a sunk cost. If they hunt players instead of dead money, I'd expect them to chase younger free agents -- including restricted guys such as Aaron Gordon, Jabari Parker and perhaps Zach LaVine.)

Garrett Temple decision day is upon us. 6/29 has arrived (in one hour).

I think there is a real chance he opts out. He wont make 8M per but I believe GT can find 3yr/12M out there somewhere.

Bruno Caboclo QO decision is today as well.

Vlade better let Bruno walk.

I don’t know if he’s assured to. Despite the community love, he’s not that good, and hasn’t made a lot in his career. I hope he does though

One thing on Hezonja...he NEVER gets to the foul line. He gets to the line virtually at the same clip as Buddy so he really wouldn't help us at all in that aspect.

Now Bagley does get to the line a ton and he and Harry are far more assertive than Williie/Skal so maybe a foul drawing wing isn't as much a need as just a 3&D guy.

Of note...Lavine statistically would have led the Kings in free throw attempts per game last year. May have been because he was ball dominant but he does seem to look for contact much more than our other guards.

Garrett waiting until the last minute tells me he is gauging interest.

He wants to go, but is the money there?

It would be incredibly smart for him to explore his options. He’s an aging player who deserves to be on a winning team. He’s allowed to do what he did. The deadline was in his contract. We knew that!

I'm not the one that came to that conclusion? It's in his best interest to do his due dilligence before making his decision.
