Examples:

Out of Bounds:

Can def see this playing being ran with Embiid/Simmons in the Duncan role throwing it up to Zhaire.

Same play against another team:

Andddd again, same setup different team:

See no reason why we can’t implement this type of set for Zhaire. Certainly gives us an added element we lacked last season.

That was beauty and resulted in a ton of oops for RJ when he went to the Spurs.

Kid’s going to need time to develop offensively for sure, but there’s a niche for hyper athletes who can finish....and it should open up a few creative wrinkles for Brett to play around with and give us some different looks to throw at teams at times.

If the team can get away with starting TLC five consecutive games at SG, this past season and look decent, then they can play Zhaire Smith the same way. I don't know what you expect from the #16 player in the draft. That's (15-20) where he should have been picked in this draft. It wasn't a reach.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I agree. Also, Zhaire figures to be a better defender and if TLC could finish like him, he likely would have had a much bigger role.

Defense is a major key, his lateral quickness looks really good.

A huge reason we lost to Boston. Our perimeter defense was very poor. Zhaire could be an Iggy type defender against quick Pgs like Rozier.

Defense was the #1 reason we lost vs. Boston

1) No one except TJ could defend Rozier at the point of attack
2) Redick and Beli were constantly iso'd and targeted
3) We couldn't get our transition game going because we didn't get defensive stops like we normally do

Hopefully Zhaire can help with all of these issues in a couple of years. I can't count on a 19 year old for anything next year.

Haywood Highsmith is the other guy. Somehow, that's not a made up name.

He seems to have sped it up a little bit but you worry about strong contest causing him to miss. I also don't know about the shot off screens and on the move.

no doubt, he's got some development to do moving from an undersized frontcourter to the wing. but he's a hard worker and i swear we've seen some significant progress this past year, and since the tournament.

I really want to keep both Zhaire and Markelle after any Kawhi trade. They could easily be our backcourt pairing of the future.

With his long wingspan, hopefully his shot translates and improves. He is an elite cutter and has shown he can hit some contested midrange pull-ups.

Zhaire, Fultz, and Simmons could be an elite group of wings on defense, much needed against Boston.

Shamet had two bad misses but you can see his shot is quick & good. He releases the ball very well. I think he can make an impact with this shot.

35 looks better than TLC...

Shamet though missed 1 more, but the release is so compact in one motion, the time difference is probably a good closeout and near closeout.

Brett Brown mentioned that they have ways to track shots and their arc which led him to believe Zhaire's shot is going to be just fine. I wonder if they did the same analysis on Shamet and other players. You would think they did. Is this technique/data widely used around the league or is it something Philly has developed? It would be interesting to know if Philly has some sort of proprietary advantage over other organizations.

According to SportsReference, the only freshman to have a Box +/- over 10 and Win Shares over 5 are...

Deandre Ayton
Marvin Bagley
Wendell Carter
Trae Young
Zhaire Smith

Smith ranked 3rd and 5th in these stats respectively

http://cbbref.com/tiny/vLIfx

****

He also had the 3rd highest Orating and 11th highest Drating.

Outside of his PER (23.0) his advanced numbers rank among the elite freshman prospects. Even then he has around the same PER as Colin Sexton and a higher one than Gilgeous-Alexander.

For what it's worth, on paper he easily looks like a lottery level prospect.
