Groshans was 1-3 with a double and 2 rbi today in the GCL, then left the game again. He's been killing it when he's been out there.

Vladdy, Bichette, Biggio, Jonathan Davis, TJ Zeuch and Jordan Romano made the Eastern League All Star Game... As did Tim Tebow.

Bo and Vladdy are the only players in the game born in ‘98 or later.

Bichette 3-5 so far tonight with a hr and double.

Anthony Alford is 3-5 with a hr and double as well. Have to think the hamate bone injury has affected him this year. IIRC, it usually takes around a year to get your power back.

Willians Astudillo, the strangest player in modern baseball, is now a major leaguer for the Twins. Built like Dinner Navarro yet capable of handling third base and the outfield, and unfailingly makes contact. He might trigger the only time in baseball history that I'll tune into a random game between two teams that are in no way competing with the Jays, in order to watch a backup catcher.

This reminds me of the time Gibby called Dinner the best hitter on the team.

It isn't the first time a rotund man plays 3B. Pablo Sandoval comes to mind. It seems like a lot of guys can get away with 30-40 excess pounds in their early to mid 20s, but after that it catches up to them in a big hurry.

In his first game, he entered as a LF, and ended the game in CF. This is a centerfielder/catcher/third baseman.

Patrick Murphy another pitcher making some progress, perhaps a guy to watch more closely. He went 5.2, 6H 3R, 2BB, 4K, for Dunedin yesterday, but all three runs came in the sixth. He was charged with three runs but it was his reliever who surrendered the 2B that brought those runs in.

Murphy is a flame thrower. He was Toronto's 3rd round pick in 2013, even though he had elbow issues when drafted. He didn't pitch in 2013, threw four innings in 2014, missed all of 2015. He's been more or less healthy since, and he's still only 23. With his powerful fastball - he was throwing 97-98 in the sixth inning - he might become an interesting bullpen option.

Sunday pitching updates:

Sean Reid Foley threw six innings of two-hit shutout ball with a walk and 5K. Continues to push himself into the picture as a trade deadline replacement at the MLB level, as does Jon Harris.

TJ Zeuch threw seven innings of five-hit shutout ball for New Hampshire

SRF suddenly looks like a real starter. Last five starts: 7 ER over 32 IP, 36 K versus 9 BB.

Zeuch, I dunno. He's gotta find a way to miss some bats.

A couple of intriguing trends. Reese McGuire is slowly raising his batting average - now above .250 at Buffalo. Had a couple of triples last night. Considering that some analysts consider him a better defender and handler of pitchers than Danny Jansen - and he's already on the 40 man roster - we might see him as a September call-up. Also, Travis Bergen, 7th round pick in 2015 who missed a lot of time with injuries - basically all of his first summer and has pitched only a small number of innings overall until this season, did well at Dunedin and is killing it in relief for New Hampshire. Big left hander. Good K-Rate
