I wouldn't mind having Jabari Parker. He would be perfect for the PF spot. He's working out with Ray Allen and you can't go wrong with that. I know he's a restricted FA but what would someone like him command?

No 3pt shooting
No defense
Very bad injury history
Probably won't be cheap

I'm pretty sure that contract isn't possible. There are max raises in contracts of like 4-5% per year. It would be nice if someone who wrote so much knew such things.
Plus, that type of money is ridiculous.
FVV falls under the Arenas provision and that contract is legal. Ridiculous money but it's possible.
Doesn't mean the Suns should panic and do this type of contract for Van Vleet. When he is getting piad 21m is when Bender Chriss and especially Jackson are coming due. Also , this seems like a robbing Peter to Pay Paul for Van Vleet. I am fine signing Fred - just to a normal 3 year contract. If this is the price for FVV - call Brooklyn about Lin and offer Dudley or Tyson . ONe year, keep your cap, expiring and call it good. I know there are better options.

In fairness he has improved his 3pt shooting to a passable level. But yeah he's a horrible fit for the suns. He has awareness issues on defense and for a team with other young guys with low defensive IQ already he's just a bad idea. He's also lost some latteral quickness due to the two acl tears and that makes this issue worse. Offensively he's kind of a bad fit too since he needs a fairly high usage rate because he gives you so little else.NTB wrote:KLEON wrote:I wouldn't mind having Jabari Parker. Ive been on the van vleet bandwagon for a while now but yeah that's an irresponsible contract and I'd rip mcd for it. 3 yrs 27 mil with the 3rd year a team option. If the raps match so be it move in to the next guy.jcsunsfan wrote:NTB wrote:

I watched the ESPN show with Woj and Lowe and though it was a lot of jabber about Lebron Kawhi George and Paul. One thing Woj said, or maybe Zach - money is tight this year. Teams are going to be telling players, here is an offer - you have x number of hours before we move on. The Suns have cap space - they will find a better PG than last year. They don't need to do something stupid like Sidery suggests above. And if Van Vleet is 3/27 , the market is that tight, - I am probably still calling Tyreke first and going 3/31 or something like that above the MLE and seeing if he takes it.

OK. I just thought he would be a match up nightmare playing the 4 with his offensive skills

Seriously Sidery in particular puts some horrendous trades and contracts and signing out there. IIRC he was one of the ones who wanted to put a huge salary out there for Smart, and wanted to trade a boatload for just about every other rumored PG about to be FA.

Isnt sidery just some voluntary writer for brightside? He is only getting this much attention for his hot takes.

one of those genius McD plans
That's just a BS conspiracy theory that was born on this very forum. There's no proof for that. When we made the pick, Coro, Gambo or one of the national reporters said that we are drafting Ennis to keep him for ourselves.
nope, pretty sure I heard it from Zach Lowe on his podcast post-draft. it was memorable for how stupid it was
(and obviously you have to keep him for yourselves and hope he develops into something or trade him for crap after your dumb plan to dangle him in front of Ujiri failed comically; it's not like people thought he was a great prospect)

Seriously....this guy and Kellan Olson are TERRIBLE. Sorry, but it is what it is.
I get that they care about the Suns and they do not have but intentions, but they do not have a **** clue about how to work as journelists for a professional NBA team. They are super amateur. It is a shame.

It’s because both are incredibly young and uneducated. Neither have a college degree of any kind (which I got from one of Kellan’s podcasts) so they don’t know much about journalism.
They started off as bloggers for a fan site.
I think as they get older and get more experience, they will be better. Right now, their opinions aren’t worth more than any poster here. Same goes for Dave King as well.

I'd rather the suns just roll the dice with Knight than overpay for a short questionable pg that may just be a career backup. Better to stick with the devil we know in that case.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
The prudent approach is to wait out the opening feeding frezny and gobble up some leftovers who lose out on the game of fa chairs.
But if they do decide to dip into the rfa waters with Gordon, van vleet or randle the key is to get it done early and have that guy sign the offer sheet the first day of real signings. That way if the other team matches you still have time to move to plan b.
If they do happen to spend on a long term contract at either PF or PG it does open up some trade options for the other spot using expirings. Because if they lock in long term money then it's not important to keep any room for next year so they could try to flip Dudley and Chandler to get a real player with a team trying to clear space next year.
Basically they either need to go 1 yr deals and shoot for next summer (my favorite option) or say the hell with it and really go all in.

Kellan Olson is not young, he looked like a middle age computer programmer from the early 90s.
I originally imagined Kellan to be a her... some college aged blonde girl who enjoys volley ball during summer... but that image of him on brightside tore that image apart.... forever..
