The advanced stats have Mario as a +.2 on defensive which surprised me. If he could become a 38% 3pt shooter with decent defense, I mean the kid is still only 23 and Orlando hasn't exactly been known to develop talent all that well the last 5+ years.

Hope they get McDermott instead.

Or Chandler from Denver.

I don’t know too much about Mario. Just that we were interested when he was drafted

Idk... Mario isn't the most athletic wing but hes certainly more athletic than Doug. Hes also younger and a MUCH better defender (considering Doug is a huge negative on that site)..

I think Doug is who he is, a 3pt specialist. Mario could prove to be a much better player given the right system. I have never been huge on him but if we're gambling on upside, Mario is the gamble id rather see.

I understand Highlights make anyone look good and 1 game is 1 game, but look at the skill set he provides. Hes an underrated defender, hes got a decent mid range, hit some seriously deep 3s, got to the rim. Hes never been given consistent minutes and the Magic have changes head coaches twice in his short career.

I’d prefer starting Buddy/Bogdan and using the cash on a bigger name, but if we have to go this FA SF route, it’s 100% Hezonja for me

I've done further research and the guy I want the Kings to sign is Will Barton. He's 6'6" but has okay length and great athleticism. He can handle the ball, pass (4.4 apg), shoot (45/37/80), and score (15.7 ppg). Watch some video on him. He's improved every year he's been in the league. He's not ideal size for SF but considering options such as Hezonja, Parker, and LaVine he would potentially be the best value. We could likely sign Hezonja cheaper let's say $8 million/per versus $13/million per but Barton is a superior player. I like Parker but he is a tweener, the injury history is a concern, and he'll likely get more money than Barton. LaVine has great upside but he'd have to play SG and he'll cost even more money than Parker. Kyle Anderson has been brought up here and while he has better size and known as a good defender he's not much of a shooter/scorer in an age where shooting and scoring is the name of the game.

I know some have discussed starting Buddy at SG and Bogi at SF. Barton is interchangeable with Buddy and Bogi. He could start at SG or SF or be the 6th man. We could still look into a true SF next off season and Barton could still fit on the roster. The Kings had major issues scoring last year and with all the talk of playing fast this year Barton would be a great fit. I love his movement off of the ball as well. He's also one of the best 4th quarter scorers in the NBA and would likely be a closer in the last 5 minutes of the game. At 27 years old he's a younger veteran and has been durable playing 81 games last season. His win share was over 6 which was 8th highest for SG's and 14th highest in the NBA for SF's. The league has moved to playing smaller, position less, and scoring. If we could get him for say 4 year $52 million then we have to do it. We signed ZBo for $12 and Hill for $19 last off season and when factoring age and production he's a much better basketball player. A team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in 12 years needs good basketball players.

Mario depending on money isn't the worst signing but I still think the Kings are starting to stack when they should be giving opportunity to the higher potential players they already have.

Bruski says the issue with Hezonja is consistency. One play you'll be a highlight dunk and the next he is losing track of his man on D.

To end up with just Hezonja would be weak

I want another good player on this team

The centers or taking Otto Porter or something

No Lavine/Parker/Hezonja, but a solid, good player

If I recall aren't he and Bodgan like best friends? That might play a part. Plus remember the Kings were supposedly all over him that year at draft time and the Magic swiped him one pick above the Kings. Him being a target wouldn't be a surprise and he can fit in some ways, but it's still a question of how all these guys are going to get minutes. If they sign him to me it just adds more pressure to move someone out of the front court. Skal being the most obvious target. Gee, I'd sure hate to see him waived at the deadline too. :banghead:

That would be a serious mistake. I'm hoping Joerger stays true to his word when he said next year we ride or die with the young guys. The training wheels come off.

WCS/Giles
Bagley/Skal
Mario/JJ
Bogdan/Hield
Fox/Mason

This should be the lineup after 20 games in. DNP for Randolph, Koufos, Shump.. I don't mind letting Temple take some minutes in the backcourt when Bogdan is in.

Per Woj Nuggets looking to quickly sign Barton. How about Tyreke? Third time a charm?

Wow I was close with Barton. I suggested 4/52 he got 4/50.

At least the Kings will always have their buddies in Phoenix to take some of the heat off of them for making head scratching moves.

Hezonja is signing with Kings. I can tell the way Grant has been talking on Twitter. It better be cheap. I'll be disappointed if that's all that happens.

If it's a contest isn't also Peja supposedly like a big brother to Hezonja? I'd say advantage Kings.
