Trade and free agency speculation
I rather have Tyler Ulis at 1.5 mil than that Raptors PG (I don’t even know his full name, other than Fred) at whatever money he will cost.

I'm not saying we should sign VanVleet but Ulis was really bad. Vleet was a huge part of a 59 win team.

Ideal off season.
Trade for love. No way Cleveland keeps him when James leaves. He has a player option next year. I can’t see him resigning there. So either 2 years max , but more than likely , he will opt out next year from Cleveland.
Sign either Van Vleet or Smart to a contract. Nothing long term though. Over pay for 2 years. Create competition at the pg position.
Let the young players play, but make them earn playing time.
You and I have an extremely different idea of of ideal. This teams windows is going to open in 3 to 5 years. What good is trading for a player that has no chance of being around and productive at that time? I dont see any value in Love.
Exactly 3 years is what I envision.
Love brings veteran leadership. The young suns need to learn how to win. In 2 years, either a ton of cap space opens up or love resigns.
Same thing with the pg. That move hopefully allows the young suns more growth, but also able to strike big in 2 years.
It’s great to have draft picks and young players, but at some point these assets will not see court.
Let me see if I understand this you say that we should bring in Love at $24 million per year to provide veteran leadership. May you have heard of a guy already on the roster named Tyson Chandler a former DPOY and winner of a championship in his own right. Oh dont forget the simple fact that he only cost $10 per year to have on the team. Yet for all that he brings to the team people still complain that he isnt worth his current contract but you think paying a person who is as close to the condition as far as injury history going is a good idea. Thanks but no thanks I will skip on spending that much money for Love and that doesnt court the team resources that it would take to get him.

Don't forget. While we don't want to sign guys for the sake of signing them, but with Booker's extension, we need to act this summer since we'll be lacking money for a big FA next year.

It's all about what you give up for nb him. He can also opt out after a year. But I'm fine paying a guy like him $25 mil for the next two years. Best player we could probably get for the money. Guy can still play too - different than duds and chandlerWaylay13 wrote:Jwetz83 wrote:Waylay13 wrote:

Yes it would depend on what they wanted. But I would rather pay love 25 mil for 2 years rather than
Dudley
Chandler
Warren
Chriss
Any of those pieces could be used as well as picks.

That is a fair argument. I just don't see Gilbert losing LeBron and then trading Love.
That team would easily become the worst in the league. Ticket sales would drop off a cliff.

With Booker extension - I think they can find 16m next year if I remember on Capulator correctly but to your point - maybe its wiser to spend this year when you might get deals 90 cents compared to a dollar when more free agents and money is out there.
Not saying they need to attach a pick to Chandler or Dudley - but maximizing for the RIGHT players with longer term deals could be a way to go. That being said, if the Suns came away with Beverly and Mbah a Moute - I wouldn't be unhappy. I do think Ryan is going to swing for something big and he is not named Van Vleet I know I practiced Favors and Beverly. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan meets with Smart tomorrow either.

my Cavs prediction - if Lebron stays
Sexton JR and Tristan for Kemba and Batum
Mitch gets a young guard and somebody to take Batum for cap relief
Bron gets Kemba to run with and Gilbert will pay for Batum when nobody else will

Are we still getting Lonzo? Boring town Phoenix needs his entertaining father to spice things up. It's time for Luol to come home.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
I think Smart and FVV are our best options in FA and I would make offers in excess of $10 mil to both. I'd love to add Bertans as well.
I wonder what teams would be interested in Warren, were we to make him available. I actually suspect the list of suitors could be rather long. In my view, most teams could use a steady 20 PPG guy on the roster - us included. But in addition to us, I think the following teams would start him or make him 6th man: ATL, BKN, CHA, CHI, CLE, DEN, DET, LAC, MEM, MIA, MIN (over Wiggins), NOP, NYK, OKC (over Melo), POR, SAC, SAS.
Wouldn't surprise me to see us involved in a pretty big trade. We may attempt to use our cap space as leverage to make a deal that includes an RFA or clears the space for a team to re-sign one.
I'm prepared for something big that doesn't touch Ayton-Booker-Jackson-Bridges-Knight. I bet we also put a high enough value on Bender to keep him out of any deal, but I could be wrong. I could see certain coaches being intrigued by Dragan.

They should tho. They have a top 10 protected pick out there. They should tank the next two years.GoranTragic wrote:Jwetz83 wrote:Waylay13 wrote:

Yea such a great idea of course you have to trade Dudley and Chandler to get him but if you trade both of them next year when Bookers extension hits you suddenly find yourself 20 over the cap and in tax range with Sarver and still not making a run at a championship. Then you have to trade your picks to move salary because Sarver wont be the tax for a team that isnt making a run at a championship. Oh but that leaves you light in the talent cost control area in the future so you end up destroying any chance that you are really going to be able to make a long term run at a championship just like what happened in the 2000s for the Suns. and history repeats itself in the form of trading away picks to save money. Agian I wouldnt touch Love with a 10 ft pole he simply isnt worth it.

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
Side note on this whole offseason but one of the reasons Doncic was so appealing was because he makes building a winning team now and in the future easier. He essentially would have solved our PF and PG problems. We would have had our pick of the litter of all the centers available this offseason, and would only need someone to fill a small role as a backup point guard. Now we’ll have to get super creative in a limited market. No point lamenting what could have been though... hopefully we don’t screw this up.

does 600 odds for mexico means you win 600 for every 100 dollar you bet on Mexico when they win?
