Guys like Beverly and mouta are bandaids not pieces and are more moves of despair
VanVleet is a 2-4 yr piece
Gordon too
If we are spending might as well buy something to keep

Surely we don't trade a first for Deng and Ball if we are required to eat his salary too. Ball is probably worth a couple of firsts and Deng is worth negative a couple of firsts. Nets out pretty close to zero.
I'd be fine if no first but not with a future attached, pass.
Still leaves a hole at PF with no cap space. I'm not sure it's even possible without them taking back Dudley.

Yeah, I was joking. We'd definitely have to send out a contract in that one.

I'm kind of surprised Paul goerge is staying in OKC. That's great news for San Antonio because now it cranks up the pressure for LA to get Leonard to pair with LeBron.

I think there is a good chance we throw something at Gordon, though not having the space it would have to be a S&T..I just hope they don't offer some max type deal to him. I'd probably rather do an offer sheet for VanVleet than a max offer to Gordon.
I just hope we are not entertaining Jabari Parker.
I really think PG needs to be the priority, but there isn't much out there.

Let me see if I understand this you say that we should bring in Love at $24 million per year to provide veteran leadership. May you have heard of a guy already on the roster named Tyson Chandler a former DPOY and winner of a championship in his own right. Oh dont forget the simple fact that he only cost $10 per year to have on the team. Yet for all that he brings to the team people still complain that he isnt worth his current contract but you think paying a person who is as close to the condition as far as injury history going is a good idea. Thanks but no thanks I will skip on spending that much money for Love and that doesnt court the team resources that it would take to get him.
Yes it would depend on what they wanted. But I would rather pay love 25 mil for 2 years rather than
Dudley
Chandler
Warren
Chriss
Any of those pieces could be used as well as picks.
Yea such a great idea of course you have to trade Dudley and Chandler to get him but if you trade both of them next year when Bookers extension hits you suddenly find yourself 20 over the cap and in tax range with Sarver and still not making a run at a championship. Then you have to trade your picks to move salary because Sarver wont be the tax for a team that isnt making a run at a championship. Oh but that leaves you light in the talent cost control area in the future so you end up destroying any chance that you are really going to be able to make a long term run at a championship just like what happened in the 2000s for the Suns. and history repeats itself in the form of trading away picks to save money. Agian I wouldnt touch Love with a 10 ft pole he simply isnt worth it.
Ok I’ll walk you through the thought process.
Let’s say the Suns start with 13 mil in cap space.
Suns trade Warren, Chriss, Williams 1st round pick to Cleveland. You can argue the Cavs would need more but I’ll go with this for now.
Cavs Trade Kevin love to suns.
Suns add about 1 million, so 12 mil in cap space.
Suns offer Smart or VanVleet 2 years at 12 mil each.
Suns are not in the tax or easily can get under next year
PG- VanVleet, Knight, Okobo
SG- Booker, Daniels
SF- Jackson, Bridges
PF- Love, Bender Dudley
C- Ayton , Chandler
Next year the suns wouldn’t be players in free agency. Bookers’ increase cancels out Chandler and Dudley
Year 2. Knight, VanVleet , Love all expiring. Could look to resign after seeing what’s out there in free agency. Also Suns could sign free agents , then resign their own free agents.
So this plan allows the young core players ( Ayton, Booker, Jackson, Bridges ) to develope together, while 3 stay on rookie deals.
Gives the Suns a look at 3 young point guards
Gives Bender someone to learn from.
Gives Suns almost 50 mil in cap space in 2 years, knowing more about their young core.
Also giving them a look at Bender and Okobo

Re: Trade and free agency speculation
The Ulis waiving surprised me, in the grand scheme of things his cap hit is negligible compared to the cost of replacement. IMO if you want to be competitive, you want to carry 4 PGs into the season - if you only have 3 and you have 2 injuries, you're in trouble. We had 3, were looking for a 4th, which made sense having Ulis as 3rd string and Okobo as 4th line/ development.
Now, we only have Knight and Okobo, and if we pick up one via trade/FA, we're still only going to have 3.
We would have to have something extremely tight lined up for that $1.5m to matter.
Does anyone know if we could re-sign him now to a min contract or a 2 way deal?

Depends what kind of protections are on that pic, right? Even with that injury he has a lot of value. I really dont know how I feel about this one or Van Fleet. Between the two in probably leaning Ball. But slightly. My preference in AG and I haven't heard a peep on that. That is McDs style.tanksonbaby wrote:bwgood77 wrote:SuperSunsFan wrote:Are we still getting Lonzo? Boring town Phoenix needs his entertaining father to spice things up. I get the downside of Smart
But is there a better man up D ... he’d be on Harden Curry Westbrook Lillard Bron etc.
I’d have no probs with him bulldogging all those studs. His intensity and attitude would fit and be welcomed
We are one of the few teams that can offer $$ and starter minutes at PG

I think Harrison jumped ahead of him. Harrison can also play some 2, which is nice. We add a PG, we're still deep at that position, especially if you think Booker and JJ can play some minutes there in a pinch, or if we might bring Canaan back later in the season.

Also shows teams besides LA that gambling on a 1 year rental can pay off.

It just depends how much though. Do you really want to be paying Smart 12m+ for 3-4 years

Yeah I'm cool with it.
