Hey I don't blame you for being mad. I mean ERIC BYRNES is your best offensive player this year.

At the prices most players are demanding now, he might even end up being a steal. Like nykgm said, we were wise in only signing him for 3 years because he's getting older, and just as an insurance if he doesn't put up similar production. Sure, we've got some good OF prospects in the minors, but Quentin and Gonzalez aren't ready to contribute right now, so I wouldn't mind trading them for some more pitching.

Also, i doubt the main reason we signed him was for his production. We have an average of about 20K people at home games, if we let Byrnes walk, that turns to about 10K. With Randy likely done, we need another fan favorite to fill up some seats.

So I can't have an opinion on the deal because of the team I root for?

Byrnes' situation seems similar to Gary Matthews Jr. last season (unspectacular outfielder having a career year). The D'backs get some credit for giving Byrnes a shorter contract than the Angels gave Matthews, but giving that much money to a .268/.329/.457 career player is not reasonable, let alone a steal under any circumstances.

When did i say you couldn't have an opinion?

I'm simply stating how humorous it is that a Yankees fan, of all fans, would say that we overpaid for an OF when you've got Damon sitting in the dugout.

I'll take Eric Byrnes' defense, base-stealing abilities, heart, over Mathews, who's been an average OF who happens to be a cancer in the locker room.

It's not as if he signed Damon to that contract or thought it was the greatest contract negotiated in the history of sports, so you saying anything was pretty foolish.

Not as foolish as you assuming I said that statement for the reasons you stated.

Butt out and don't speak unless you're spoken to.

It's a forum. If you'd like to discuss things 1 on 1, take down his email address and complain about his opinion to him there.

I think it's an alright deal. Byrnes is the most popular d'back by far. And we have to have some vets on this team. The bad news is I think that this assures that Hudson is gone after next year.
