We should target Nic Batum for the backup PG position.

I guess if Miles ends up being good enough to start and Monk improves a little as a PG, a Monk-MKG-Batum-Frank-Willy second unit might work. MKG can cover the bigger or better guard, Batum can help with the playmaking. Start Kemba-Lamb-Miles-Marvin-Cody. Although, I would imagine Borrego would stagger the lineups way more than Clifford.

My approach would be trade MKG or Marv for a PG, use MLE on BPA for depth.

Why not trade MKG or Marvin for BPA offered and use MLE for one of the many backup PG?

Bulls have Kris Dunn, Jerian Grant, and Cameron Payne. Wonder what it takes to get one of them

Grant is a hidden gem, I'd love to have him on this team.

I think you have to take best offer for MKG or Marvin. What if best offer is a player who does not play PG? You take it. You have many PG available for that MLE. The market is saturated so you're going to get a quality backup at a bargain price on a good contract. That makes you better now and positions you to move that contract down the road.

Stats for some of the guys most talked about on this thread

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1_hint=Dante+Exum&player_id1_select=Dante+Exum&y1=2018&player_id1=exumda01&idx=players&player_id2_hint=Shabazz+Napier&player_id2_select=Shabazz+Napier&y2=2018&player_id2=napiesh01&idx=players&player_id3_hint=Fred+VanVleet&player_id3_select=Fred+VanVleet&y3=2018&player_id3=vanvlfr01&idx=players&player_id4_hint=Elfrid+Payton&player_id4_select=Elfrid+Payton&y4=2018&player_id4=paytoel01&idx=players&player_id5_hint=Tyreke+Evans&player_id5_select=Tyreke+Evans&y5=2018&player_id5=evansty01&idx=players&player_id6_hint=Seth+Curry&player_id6_select=Seth+Curry&y6=2017&player_id6=curryse01&idx=players

My takeaways:
Tyreke Evans - best offensive player, older/experienced player, can play SG, not a great defender - Best VORP & BPM
Dante Exum - OK defender, good height, does not shoot a ton of 3s, RFA / likely requires a S&T -
Fred VanVleet - best all round player offense/defense/passing/shooting, RFA / potentially gettable without a S&T - Best Win Share
Shabazz Napier - second best all round player - maybe best defender, but definitely behind Fred on offense, not the best passer
Seth Curry - easily best shooter, but not a great distributor or defender
Elfrid Peyton - bad on both offense and defense, barely shoots 3s, but best passer of all 6 guys
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Also for all of you advocating being tall as important so as to fit with Monk, don't forget this

Because I'm not a big fan of the FA PG pool. I don't feel strongly one way or the other I guess, I just want us to get the best PG we can and not limit our search to FAs.

But how can you control what other GM's propose for MKG or Marvin? What if the best offer is a player who doesn't play PG? Do you pass it up in favor of a PG who holds less value, all because you don't want Shabazz Napier (as an example) on the team?

The top teams are shelling out major cash. The payroll of the Thunder, Rockets, Raptors, Warriors, and Nuggets is insane.

I wish so much that we could find a way to add a 2nd allstar to compete with the Celtics, 76'ers, Raptors, and the West. I'm tired of this team being mediocre.

If your question is would I prioritize fit, the answer is yes. Otherwise, I don't understand your questions. We need a PG. We shouldn't limit our options solely to FAs. I'm not interested in trading MKG or Marv for yet another wing, unless we're also trading Lamb or Batum for a PG.

We need fewer wings / non-primary ballhandler playmakers and more PGs / primary ballhandler playmakers.

replacing him with an average backup, or even staggering our lineups so that we had a couple starters in there at all times could've saved at least a half dozen games this season. Same with Sessions the previous year.

It's a shame MIL signed Ilyasova, I would have been down with a Marv - Bledsoe swap.

Can we add Tyler Ulis to this discussion? I know he lacks the size we are looking for in a backup PG but I have always liked his game. I would be happy with his addition.

Also Booker was really upset the Suns released him. I like the idea of adding stars best friends to the roster, just in case. Booker’s a RFA in 2019
