Re: Bulls Free Agency - Merged
Notice everybody signed last night were UFAs. Teams rushing to get the guys they can sign without waiting for the other team to match.
No reason to spend this summer on FAs that are not part of the future. Bulls already got 12 guys on the payroll for next season.

The Bulls just need to not screw this up. If they can manage to S&T portis and lavine for picks and miss the playoffs, they could go into next year with 4 or 5 lottery picks on the roster and the ability to add two max contracts. I'll give GarPax credit, they are turning this around quick. All signs point to a big pop up in 2019.
They just need to not screw up in FA this summer by giving out big money to mediocre players.
The issue is who are we going to sign in that window?
Are we going to be Dallas and pay huge money for a fringe star?
I started a thread on it. I'll continue the discussion there.

Re: Bulls Free Agency - Merged
So many 1 year deals behind handed out. I guess that makes sense.. a lot of teams don't have cap space, and everyone's trying to clear the deck in 2019 while staying competitive.
But if a lot of these albatross contracts are off the books next year, our cap space will be way less valuable since many teams will have it too. This really is the last summer to take advantage of absorbing bad contracts/facilitate signing while still getting something of value back in return.

There would have to be a young asset(Ferguson) or future 1st round pick involved. Unfortunately OKC owes one to Orlando in 2020 (top 20 protected) According to the Stephen rule, OKC would have to trade their 2022 1st then.
Which is fine. Nothing wrong with a future asset. The biggest thing is to open up that space for 2019. Which is all the more important with Durant doing another 1 and 1. And we can make it work too.

Renoncunce Vonleh,Nwaba and Archi
Sign Lavine for less than 18M per.
I'd like us to resign Nwaba and Vonleh. Archi could be our two way player again.
Resign Vonleh for what though? He’s not going to see the floor. All 4 and 5 minutes are accounted for. There’s use for a guy like Nwaba this season. But what about beyond given who we just drafted? And as far as Archi, we can find a guy like that anywhere after bigger needs have been addressed.

This is exactly why we should hopefully not see anything.

He will either get a deal by Bulls standards or he will get nothing. Market is set where he doesnt dictate the price. And time is against him unless he is willing to take QO.

Also not sure how Minn feels about trading Wiggins. I think I would take a flier on that contract and I think he would fit in nicely with the Bulls. It sounds goofy but Wiggins would be a great piece next to Laurie...he can rebound and provide athleticism next to Laurie and can switch pretty easily.
Dear God.... I view Wiggins as having the absolute top #1 worst contract in the league.

Once LeBron signs I expect to the Bulls to be receiving a lot of calls about salary dumps. Maybe even a team that misses out on a C trades for Lopez. I expect Lavine to leave

You expect Lavine to leave? Well good news is that he is currently working on a deal to stay in Chicago. He's not interested in leaving at all. Lavine will be re-signing with us.

Holv03, what would you expect the terms of the deal to be as of this morning?

Not sure but we could see so sething somilar to Niko contract or a 4yr 75m type of deal. Still in negotiations but he's returning that's all I have heard. He's focus on being a Bull for the future.

I like Lavine I just expect someone to get desperate after missing out on some free agents. I am hoping we resign him

Then we can stop talking about all this. Exciting!

I’d be down for that deal if most of his money comes from the 1st 2 years. Hopefully the true plan here is to pay him generously upfront and then by year 3 if he’s improved enough you now have a bargain contract that can be flipped if need be.

Wait, so you mean the guy that was the centerpiece of the Butler trade is not leaving? The team might actually sign him for near max and the opinion on him hasn't changed due to the SSS?
It's almost like people with actual brains saw this coming...

Just under $19mm a year for Lavine, if he gets that all I can say is WOW. What a ridiculous contract.

Forget the small sample size nonsense, when was Lavine ever good? Has he had one good season?
