Paul George re-signing with the OKC Thunder, guarantees 4 more seasons of one/done playoffs. I give George all the credit, every team wanted him but he chose to come back to a team who has Melo on his last legs and Russell Westbrook fighting every one topless.

New reality of Son ship!
All who receive and believe in Jesus, given the right to become children of God. Not born of flesh, but born of Spirit. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Glory that came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

if they buyout melo do they not pay the tax on his contract ? might be worth it just from that point of view.

Dont want to jinx it but im loving the FO mindset rn.

who?

Courtney Lee is a decent player but what team is giving up young assets for him?

I guess when every other FA is signed and the dust settles, maybe they'll be one of the 16 playoff teams who has a need. Maybe.

see, this is that dumb sh*t the knicks do. they overplay their hand. just get an expiring and a 2nd and keep it moving.

Well, young asset is their wish. I'd hope their fallback is expiring and 2nd rounder. That would be big.

It wouldn't be a terrible idea to INCLUDE a 2nd rounder, just to move the contract. It may turn out to be necessary.

Unless the Knicks really like moving forward with 8 guards on the 15 man roster/2 way contracts (if Trier sticks)

This answers that question I think

found an article -

Scenario 1: George, Anthony and Grant all stay

Obviously, the Thunder wants to re-sign George, who would command the maximum salary next season ($30.3 million). That would make Grant a very expensive reserve. If he earns something close to the non-taxpayer mid-level ($8.6 million), that's a $45 million tax bill for his salary alone, meaning Grant would cost $53 million next season. Needless to say, a first-round exit at this price would not be acceptable.

Total estimated salaries: $155 million

Total estimated tax: $130 million

Scenario 2: George signs, Anthony is bought out or stretched, Grant is re-signed

The Thunder still pays taxes on Anthony's salary whether it's $27.9 million or a lower negotiated buyout. If Anthony's salary is stretched over three seasons, however, at an average of $9.3 million, the Thunder would save close to $100 million this year. The Thunder would still be paying taxes on Anthony until 2021, however, which would hurt future cap flexibility.

Keep in mind: Buying out Anthony now would mean a high bill in 2018-19 (see above), but more flexibility in the next two seasons with him completely off the books. Yet, if Anthony was bought out, OKC would still be paying the same monster taxes for no on-court return.

Total estimated salaries (if Anthony is stretched): $137 million

Total estimated tax (if Anthony is stretched): $40 million

They can save just below $100 mil total if they buyout/Stretch Melo....that's a lot of money.

Darren Wolfson

@DWolfsonKSTP
#Twolves, Knicks, 76ers, Lakers, Pacers, others have registered interest in FA Lance Stephenson. But all of those teams have many other balls up in the air, presumably waiting on others first.

I'd do something crazy like a 3 way trade with the Wizards where OKC gets Lee, Washington gets Kanter, and we take back Melo (and waive him) and Mahinmi for like Troy Brown and picks or something
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

a 1 year deal is fine but i don't get the mavericks. you're a rebuilding team, why do you even want dj ? people don't talk about it enough but low key cuban is a bad owner. he chases big fish and fails to catch them, then bounces back by overpaying role players. he seems obsessed with trying to make the playoffs every year even when it doesn't make sense.

Thanks PG for not making it a dragged out drama..
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.
