It’s possible that could happen but I don’t think the spurs are in any rush to trade Kawhi right now. My thinking is that Lebron will have to make a decision first which I bet he really doesn’t want to make before the Kawhi trade. If say Lebron goes to Philly and then Philly presents a strong package to San Antonio, maybe then Boston gives the San Antonio a strong package to avoid a team like that from happening but right now Boston, San Antonio, and the Sixers likely are in no rush to get Kawhi. Lebron news is the first domino that everyone is waiting on and then you’ll see how aggressive teams are going after Kawhi depending on what happens.

But you aren't disagreeing with me. Again, if it seems like Lebron provides an ultimatum to the Sixers that he will go there if they get Kawhi, then the Sixers will present an excellent package to the Spurs with like a 48 hours deadline to take it or leave it forever. And in that scenario (which is what I outlined about Lebron + Kawhi might going to the Sixers) is where Ainge has to bite the bullet and present a better package (which is most likely Jaylen Brown + Sac Pick + filler) to beat the Sixers package.

Well yeah I’m not disagreeing but I don’t know if the Sixers could convince the spurs they have a short amount of window to trade Kawhi to them or else they’ll move on. I can’t see that happening, pretty much every team involved with Kawhi really wants him. I still think the spurs are going to drag this out imo as much as possibly, certainly after Lebron makes his decision to get the best package possible from either la, Boston, or Philadelphia

My main point is that if Ainge is stingy and wants to win this deal, he might get burned if the Sixers get Kawhi + Lebron. Ainge would need to prepare the lose the battle to win the war in a worst-case scenario.

Philly would have to clear some cap to sign him right?

Had Philly hired Griffin, I'd think he'd be going to the 76ers. I feel that he will stay in Cleveland on a short-term.

Lebron is the ultimate ring chaser. Waiting to see where all the big time players end up before making his move.

I'm not sold on Philly to contend imo, they have a bright future yes, but they won't cause any real damage soon even with lbj

Sounds like LeBron is sending a message that whoever between LA and Philly gets Kawhi get him as well. To be honest it’s a smart play. His best chance of beating the Warriors is to team up with Kawhi. If I’m the Sixers I go all in on that trade. You add LeBron and Kawhi to a team that already has Embiid and Simmons and you own the East for the next few years. Add a couple good complementary pieces and you might even be able to take down Golden State.

Philly won't bandover for LeBron, like Cleveland did. If he is willing to come - we are glad, if not - we'll be good either way. And Embiid just told a truth.

Everyone said Embiid was being salty with that comment. I loved it personally because it’s the truth. Lakers fans don’t even want LBJ. How doesn’t his people realize that. He be better off in NYC because they would appreciate him just like the Philly faithful

I think they can sign him outright, Belinelli and Ilyasova cap hold gone. Reddick cap hold can be renounced.

Tuesday? Drama King.

So who placed bets on LeBron NOT going to LA? I imagine you're in for a pretty big payday.

They won 52 games last year in the first year Simmons/Embiid played together and they have the assets to make a trade for another star. They have a shot. Especially if they can get Kawhi

This makes the most sense if he wants to play on a guaranteed contender next year. I can't see him going to Boston considering their past rivalry and the fact that Kyrie plays there.

On one hand it feels foolish to doubt whether adding the best player on the planet is a good idea, but would he play off the ball with Simmons?

yeah. It's wouldn't be particularly difficult. stretch Bayless plus a minor cost cutting move.

This should be a no brainer for Philly. If you have the opportunity to get LeBron by trading Covington, Saric, Fultz, and that Miami pick for Kawhi, you do it. Simmons/Kawhi/LeBron/Embiid has a legitimate chance to win titles for years to come. People get too caught up in not wanting to trade their young guys so they can let the team grow organically and develop together but don't realize just how hard it is to win a championship in the NBA. Simmons, Embiid, and Philly's young core will certainly be a force in the East for years to come, but there's no assurance they'll be better than Boston or be able to take out whoever comes out of the West. You're not throwing away the future here. Kawhi is 27. Simmons and Embiid are 21 and 24. LeBron is older at 33 but he's coming off one of the best seasons of his career end to end and has the work ethic and durability to be better later in his career than pretty much anyone else in history. And Philly still has Zhaire, Shamet, and future picks.

If they pass on getting two top 5 players just so they can keep their current construction intact they'll regret it.
