So conflicted about this. It might be good for Toronto, but LeBron hype + Lakers hype is going to make the NBA media even more unbearable next year.

I think based on the timeline of evidence that the Kawhi-Spurs relationship was actually done back in August 2017 (when he went shopping for second opinions until he found someone to agree he needed to sit out), and the stuff since is as much cover for Kawhi as anything. Don't get me wrong, I think the issues (misdiagnosis of the quad over several years, inability to attract marquee FAs, Pop's hard coaching style, not as great as we thought relationships within the team, etc.) are real just that the media have been focusing on the wrong things.

As for coordinating with Lebron...I guess I'm saying it would strike me as unlikely that these two superstars who have both been rumored to be going to LA for the better part of a year have never had a conversation about this, ever, and that even now after Lebron has announced, Kawhi's people are still out there telling Woj he only wants to go to LA...and we're supposed to believe these guys haven't talked? I don't buy it.

Exactly, this has been effectively done for a year. It's been done since the Lakers signed KCP so they could talk to Klutch Sports all year last year. There was always a chance of it going sideways, but LeBron was never coming back to Cleveland and LAL were the overwhelming favorites for the last 12 months.

Idk what your deal is. I literally said I’m upset the Raptors the past 3 years could not have put up a better fight against Lebron especially with his weak team this year before he decided to go west for good. My opinion of the teams suckiness is not related to that thought.

I also think that's why Kupchak was fired. LeBron doesn't seem to enjoy dealing with the old basketball people like Riley, Phil Jackson and Kupchak.

Honestly, this shouldn't change Masai's plan. If you can find talent that is a better fit for the longterm outlook of the team, you do it; no questions asked. It would be silly to hinge everything on Lebron leaving. You have no control over what happens next season. We were the healthiest we've been in years and our bench unit was a big reason for our success. Those two things aren't certainties next year.

People celebrating and acting like we are guaranteed to go to the Finals are the same people who thought that last year. We all saw how that went. Bench talent gets you regular season wins, your starting 5 is what gets you far in the playoffs.
