It almost feels like Lebron just retired. This move has that type of impact.

Thats what this feels like to me. I think Magic and Pelinka are getting way too much credit for this. This has more to do with the city than the Lakers. The stories about his sons schools, the house he bought and entertainment ventures all pointed to Lebron and his family relocating to L.A permanently because they probably wanted a change of scenery(I mean they spend almost half their life in Ohio) and the Lakers just happened to have cap space and Lebron still has some years left. He’s rich and wants to live in L.A.(who doesn’t). Plus after Lebron brought a title to Cleveland you can tell he was content and happy with his legacy in basketball and he started talking more and more about his family and life after basketball. This was a lifestyle choice and Lebron’s career is winding down.

I think if ur Lakers fans ur excited but the fact that Lebron has never been hurt and going into his 16th season makes u wonder how much longer can he outrun father time. The league is happy bc Magic gets his star and the media and Silver dont have to worry about both the two biggest markets being irrelevant for another season.

It's as if you took a 1-year break from the NBA and just woke today. Magic/Pelinka took over a team that was capped out with no draft picks. They miraculously got rid of Mozgov's contract and even got a pick in the deal, which was used to draft Kuzma (which allowed them to trade down with their other pick and select Josh Hart in the 2nd round). They signed KCP last year which opened up a communication channel with Lebron's circle (and filled a huge hole at SG). I believe Lebron told them a year ago he was coming. That would explain why Magic then broke up their league-leading bench and traded Nance/Clarkson in a salary dump and obtained another 1st round pick. It was a controversial move among Laker fans, because why send out young talent without knowing if you can sign anyone with that cap space? Ironically, Cleveland helped the Lakers sign Lebron by doing that deal.

There were a series of moves that Magic and Pelinka made to clear the way for this offseason to take place. Saying they "just happened to have cap space" is just silly. It didn't happen by mistake.

Lakers missed out on literally every big time free agent in years past. Patience paid off, however, as they land the biggest possible fish in the free agent market.

The team as currently constructed isn't much better than the Cavs. They will have to trade for Leonard. Even then, they don't make it past the Warriors. Too many question marks on that roster.

I do like the KCP signing. He's shown flashes, and he's your prototypical 3 & D shooting guard.

Him signing for 4 years tells me this is a cash grab by him. He must know the end is near. I expect Albert Pujols Angels type production the last couple years of this deal.

nah, its just him knowing he wants to be in LA for 4 years and wanting to give the Lakers f/o a year to build around him. He wasn't going to spend the last 5 years of his career hopping from city to city like some second rate ring chaser.

True, but the main reason why he kept doing that was to keep cashing in on the rising cap. And the cap is expected to make another nice jump in the next year or 2. You'd think he would've preferred a 1+1 or a 2+1 to cash in again

That being said, no this will not be a Pujols situation. His is a 10 year deal, which had long term disaster written all over it at the time. The bigger surprise was how soon into it he declined

Huge relief, after missing out on George I was thinking surely he goes to Philly or signs a 1+1 with Cleveland. So glad he signed here though because now we'll be back in the playoffs.

Also glad that our organic growth has paid off, even if Lebron isn't here for basketball reasons. I can't understate how huge this is, 5 years at being amongst the bottom of the league and finally getting it done and done the right way, its a good feeling.

This isn't without issues, 1 being Lonzo off the ball, i have the same concerns for him as i did for Simmons, in fact it may be worse because at least Simmons is aggressive when attacking the rim.

Clippers the most irrelevant ones in LA again at least. That's good enough for me at 1:40AM on 7/2/18. First step in a 4 year journey. I was a Laker fan when Magic retired due to HIV and that period of bleakness didn't even last as long as this latest one did, imo, and back in 91, that **** was very saddening. The 94/5 "Lake Show" squad made the team relevant again in only 4 yrs. I remember when the Lakers and Clippers were vying for the 7th and 8th seeds in 92 and 93. Clippers were marginally better than the Lakers for a couple years, but there have been 2 periods since (mid 2000s and recent years) where the Clippers were bein called "The best team in LA" to Lakerfan's dismay. What sucked so bad is that it was admittedly true.

Shaq was Earth moving since he was only 24. I actually went to buy an old thing called a newspaper at 6AM. Was awake all nite cus that news broke at about 10pm. "LAKERS HIT THE SHAQPOT" the Times' header that morn. This feels great, but I was defo more geeked about Pau because I knew from the 1st second they were gonna win a title in 1-3 years. This one is more of a waiting to exhale moment because this chise has been thru some embarrassing moments with both closing deals and eventually we weren't even getting responses from FAs. LMA was disgusted by their pitch, aamof. Magic deserves a lotta credit for helping rebuild the gravitas of the name, whether Brawny Bron already wanted to come here or not. Mitch and Jim wouldn't have gotten this done, no way in hell. Mitch rushing to sign MozGod to that hellish offer at the 1st minute of free agency says all you need to know about what this has done to the expectations of the franchise now.
