I'm serious about this: do you think Ernie actually comes into work every day? Or most days? Like... do you think he got up this morning, showered, shaved & brushed his teeth, & then went to the Wizards office? Sat down at his desk? And...
...did what? I mean, what does he do? Does he call around to other GMs & shoot the sh*t for a while, gather skuttlebutt & so forth? Does he... I don't know... meet with his staff?
Does he have staff? If so, what do they do? I mean... does he have his staff call Doc Rivers & propose to trade Marcin Gortat for Austin Rivers? When Doc calls back to talk about it... does he talk with Ernie? Or with someone on Ernie's staff? Like maybe I don't know let me see I've got it -- a "trade expert?"
Is that how it works? & when there are no opportunities to make trades like that -- not even to trade a R2 pick for a $20 gift certificate at Legal Seafood -- what does Ernie do then? Does he head home? Does he arrange a business lunch first (you have to eat, but why do you have to pay?), & then he heads home?
If he stays in the office, I don't understand & I really want someone to tell me: what does he do with his time? I sure can't figure it out, so I hope someone can.
What's even harder for me to figure out is this: what does he do the next day? Does he come in the next day too? Why? To do what? & when he's done that, whatever it is, what does he do then?
It's a mystery to me, I can tell you that. Must be someone here who can figure it out -- & if so, please tell me. I'd really like to know.
Agree would be great to shadow him for a week to find out. Just from reading various interviews he seems to do the standard GM duties, player relations, owner pleasing, gossiping with other GM’s, league insiders and the press ( one thing he does well is prevent leaks), , front office hiring, and the occasional scouting trip. He does not strike me as a workaholic. Fairly normal stuff. Certainly not a lot of long term thinking other than his own job survival
I don’t like his performance, but have respect for him as a man, came to country as immigrant who didn’t speak a word of English, great college career, nba with limited skills (and being Jewish) , longtime GM, nba lifer, seems like a good family man. Just has stunk at his job for a decade.
