Re: Pacers Sign Doug McDermott
Wouldn't surprise me to see the Pacers sit tight for a few days. There are no doubt players hoping for bigger money than they are going to get. Luc Mbah a Moute, Rodney Hood, Avery Bradley could be candidates for Collison/Bogdonovich type deals. Still haven't given up on Marcus Smart for 10-12 mil.

There's a couple guys out there who I'd still love to get on a decent deal (Evans, Smart, Parker, etc.), but I would be totally fine rolling cap over to next season and trying to get some assets for taking on money.

We could have gutted the bench to sign someone like Gordon to a $25 mil contract and prayed it worked out, but a move like that could have also set the franchise back years. Patience is good for us right now and there's not many guys who are/were free agents this summer that are likely to be a good bet at their price (e.g. Barton, Smart, etc.).
I don't mind us sitting out the RFAs that you have to overpay to get, but this is the Doug McDermott thread and saying we have cap space next year is true, but we just dedicated a chunk of it to Doug for some reason. Seeing other deals go down, the only one I like less than Doug was the Jazz paying for Favors. I wish we'd just waited. What was the rush to land this guy? What does he do that we can't get other places. He can shoot, but that seems to be it and there are/were other shooters out there.

This is so true after watching free agency play out. Hell, look at Seth Curry's deal. Bah!!

really? Collison, Bogie, Joseph, and Lance were all key contributors last year signed by Pritchard to reasonable contracts. the players want another change together and we're giving it to them. Collison had a great year by everyone's standards except yours. now Pritchard is incapable too??? we may just have to agree to disagree on everything,
We have seen your Collison in PO... where was he? And what we have now... DC probably stays and we signed McD instead Lance...I'm not happy with that...

Re: Pacers Sign Doug McDermott
I will be one of the first ones to say that I am really really happy with the McDermott signing. He fits the Pacers current culture where he is all about the team and not all about himself. The Pacers were ranked 28th in 3 point shooting next year so he will help fill a void. He played great with the Mavs (50% from 3) and they have no firepower. Imagine what he will do when he can play off Oladipo. If teams continue to throw double teams at him, McDermott can be the guy to really make them pay. No he will not be a superstar, but he isn't getting paid like a superstar either.
I also think we can all agree that Bogie got worn down last year from the minutes he played. McDermott can take some of the load off him. Also it sounds like we will see another signing soon (Tyreke Evans).

We needed shooting and the other options for shooters weren't better really. So far the guys who have signed look like:
Belinelli - has always sucked
Ilyasova - we have Leaf as a stretch 4 and he's paid as much as Doug plus older
Reddick - signed for $13 mil
Harris - signed for $8 mil a year
Curry - signed cheap but has injury concerns and is short for even the SG position
I'd take Doug over all of those guys except Reddick. Ellington is the only other good shooter I see currently out there and he's 31. We'll still have a ton of space (Doug's salary is right in line with the cap increase actually).

At the very beginning I was shocked at the number. But, sitting back and thinking about it, the number isn't that huge. I think with a cap spike next year and everyone having a ton of cap space coming free it is going to be like the wild west next year. Similar to the summer that Solo got paid big time. I think at this time next year Dougie at 7 mil may look like a bargain. Also, if we really thought the fair value was 4 or 5 mil per you would only have 2 or 3 mil extra next year which really isn't a whole lot.

I don’t think it’s a bargain by any means, but the fact that most every solid national writer has had no issues with it makes me feel better. I feel a bit as I did when Ian Mahinmi signed here, and by the 2nd half of his deal, I was happy to have him. I’m maybe expecting a bit of the same here.

I used the last of the milk at breakfast. I need to buy some. It won't be a bargain, but it won't be an unfair price either.
we needed a backup SF who could shoot. we bought one and paid the market price (a million plus below the non-taxpayer MLE). not a bargain, but still a fair deal.
IMHO a backup for Bogie was the highest need once we decided to bring the 5 starters back. I really don't see what there is to complain about unless you want to go back a step and say we should have unloaded Collison, Bogie, or Thad. I'm very happy that we're building a team and not a collection of stars all of whom need the ball (Lakers?). McBuckets may not be the heir apparent to Bogie. Holiday may not be the heir apparent to DC. neither Leaf nor Sabonis may be the heir apparent to Thad. but our second unit has the potential to have a much better +/- than last year and we haven't broken the bank.
