I just don't see it. Not with Noel. This guys hasn't played regular minutes in the 20s since 2016.

You can't trade away your 3rd best player just to save money if you're actually talking about winning. They can save money via other avenues.

Re: Thunder signs Noel
He was focused on joining a contender with a strong culture and finds one in Oklahoma City. The Thunder aggressively pursued Noel in free agency and had a July 1 meeting between Noel and Oklahoma City head coach Billy Donovan that included pitches from All-Stars Russell Westbrook and Paul George, league sources said.
I just hope they didn't promise him the starting spot.

I have a hard time seeing Adams being moved. Even if we are going to assume that Noel would be the starting center who is going to take on Adams' contract AND give OKC a return that improves the roster? Send him to the Bulls with Singler for Robin Lopez? I'd HATE that. It would basically be dumping salary. Lopez is solid, but it would be a step back for the roster. Adams and Singler for DeMarre Carroll and Jeremy Lin. That would be interesting as Carroll would be a solid wing off the bench and Lin would be a solid combo guard off the bench. I just wouldn't want to be betting that heavily on Noel as the starter.
Adams to Sacramento for WCS and Temple? Who really has a need for center and can tie up that much cap space at the position? A rebuilding team doesn't make a lot of sense. People say OKC can't move Russ because of the PR, but I think moving Adams would be just as bad if you are looking at it from that direction. Adams is a fan favorite and his personality is arguably the best on the team.
I agree. Adams is the new Mr. Thunder. He plays the game right. He sacrifices every night. He brings his lunch pail to work. I think Adams has move value than the offers above. I would only deal him if it brought back a wing that makes sense with this team. Even though we are paying Adams he's the kind of guy that would give a sweet heart deal on his next contract. I think we need to keep this guy around.

Is Patterson gone? This moves Grant back to the 4 I would assume, which pushes PPat out of the lineup?

I agree they can't trade him just to save money. They could trade him, but it would require improving the roster. I don't see much out there that would really work for that. I think maybe an Adams for Porter swap could work for OKC, although I don't think Washington would go for it. You can start PG and Porter together or you can bring Porter off the bench and continue starting Roberson. They would need to add another center if they were going to do that. They can NOT expect Noel to play the minutes of Adams.
I like the idea of sending Adams to Sacramento for WCS, Hield and Temple, but I don't think Sacramento would do that. Maybe send Adams to NOLA in a S&T for Cousins. Adams and Davis could work together. Cousins and Noel could play together. I don't like the idea of Grant and Noel on the court together because neither can hit anything if they aren't at the rim.

The player that needs to be gone is Melo not Patterson. Patterson is the best PF on the roster and it isn't close. Noel has played a total of 81 games over the last two seasons. I need him to prove his health before I start considering moving the quality players to create more playing time for him. Grant will see some time at small ball 5 when Adams and Noel miss time. They should actually be able to rest Adams when he needs it this year with Noel there, assuming Noel stays relatively healthy.

Also need to keep in mind that Noel has a marijuana problem. He has already been suspended once for it. He could be the next Mitch McGary for OKC. Definitely a great signing, but there is some risk.

Honestly: I think a Patterson-Noel bench frountcourt could be spectacular.

Re: Thunder signs Noel
I wouldn’t be surprised if the front office is thinking that Adams minutes need to be lowered in order to be effective. He really struggled to play big minutes. I could see it being a 60/40 split between he and Noel.

I give it up to the voters of Oklahoma, myself included, for passing State Question 788 last Tuesday to legalize medical marijuana for this signing of known pothead Nerlens Noel. True, DC and California both have recreational. All I'm saying is we needed 788 to even be in the running. Blaze away, Nerlens.

The NBA should stop even testing for this. It's ridiculous. It isn't even a crime in several states in which the league operates. Even Trump said he supports legalizing it at the federal level.

i'm thinking like a quasi-salary dump with melo to a place like chicago
Bulls fan here. Would Thunder trade Melo and a future 1st for Justin Holiday? I know the pick protections would matter.

Just to be clear I support legalizing marijuana for recreational use, although 788 is a terrible bill because the tax money is going to go to school superintendents and their assistants instead of teachers and the classroom. The taxes are going to be as useless for education improvement as the lottery money has been.
However, that doesn't mean that every major sport will not continue to keep testing in their CBA. As long as the unions agree to it the players have to uphold their contract. It is like saying that NBA teams should sign scrubs to the federal minimum wage, which I believe is around $7.50 an hour at this point, because that is the law. It doesn't matter because the owners have agreed to a different minimum salary in the CBA.
