The east will run through boston but the pacers made a nice move getting Evans. He’s good whenever healthy.

LA had absolutely no need to acquire Rondo for that purpose. If they didn't plan on playing him, there are other things they could have done with that 9mil.
Except for the fact that Magic is not a good GM and was gifted into Lebron strictly because of the location of the team and nothing more.
Not saying Rondo is going to work out.
But I doubt Magic is so bad that he'd give 9mil to someone he had no plans to play, when there are still other uses for that money out there. That's just not credible.
If the reports are true, Ball tore his meniscus so he may be out for the start of the season. So Rondo’s there as an insurance plan pretty much.
Will he start? Well yeah if Ball is injured.

Wasting a year of Lebron prime is a risky proposition.

Haven’t heard much on capela. It seems like he’s on the same boat as smart. Likely going back to Houston?

I wouldn’t call it wasting, they are signing capable ball players. There’s just no big fish for them to go out and get other than a crippled boogie. It’s a smart play for them.

It’s all good but not good enough. We will see how great lebroni James can be in a stacked western conference.

That Lakers team is the worst 3 point shooting team ever assembled. How are they going to win games in today's NBA?
Sydney Kings 3-peat NBL Champions of Australia going for a 4 peat!!!

And Boogie Cousins.

Who can they sign that is good enough? Let’s say they throw a big offer sheet at Capela, well they just took themselves out of the running for Kawhi next year. There’s nobody on the market for them worthy of commiting long term dollars for. Vets willing to work for short money is exactly what they need

All 1 year deals. They clearly got pissed SA wouldn't accept a bare min offer and said F it, we'll perserve our capspace and sign him for free next year.
Must have been why LeBron for the first time signed a 3+1 contract saying he's willing to wait to do it and keep the young guys for the future.
That said I don't mind seeing them not trying to compete till LeBron is 34. One of those years he will have to fall off athletically or God help him if he ever actually gets injured at his age.

It's wasting in the sense that they have no shot to win it all this year unless they get another big star like leonard. The lakers can run the risk of waiting until next year and letting another year of lebrons "prime" fade away but if leonard does get traded to another good team, they risk another PG situation happening. Maybe they are confident enough to take that risk but minds can change and situations can change.

Their free agent signings have nothing to do with that though. They are clearly still trying to trade for Kawhi but are positioned well if they don’t come to a deal

Pass. Would rather sign Smart for that kind of money.
Ideal scenario is Smart plays for the qualifying offer and we use the rest of the room we have under the luxury tax to sign Jabari Bird to a 2 year deal
Smart taking the QO is a big risk for him.

He doesn’t have much choice right now. If someone offers him the MLE and he signs the offer sheet it’s almost assured we match. Taking the QO and trying as a free agent next year when much more teams have cap room is likely his best chance at getting the money he wants
