Given the amount of 1 year deals signed and the amount of players there will be in FA, plus Bucks fans telling me Jabari is in fact a 3, I say go for it. It's risky, but it's also high upside.
I'd rather pay Parker 16m now and trade Portis and get a pick back (at the deadline apparently there were lots of calls on him), than get Portis at 10-12m and have no additional asset. Parker can play SF and also backup PF. This allocates minutes in such a way that you can bring in a more 3/D oriented piece on the wing and skew the lineups so you don't have to run Parker and Lavine on the wings together in a lineup at any time.
I just don't understand what the plan would be with Parker. He hasn't played SF in two seasons and played last year at 250 pounds. He and LaVine are both net negative defenders with questionable shot selection.
Per basketball reference he played near 40% of the time the last two seasons at SF. I think he can (and should) drop a little weight for both quickness and to help the ACL (just one, but injured twice). That would also improve his effectiveness at the 3. Meanwhile, his game doesn’t rely on blow-by athleticism a la LaVine. Reminds me of Danny Granger.
Has a good PER and comparable efficiency to LaVine, without being as low IQ. There was a reason he was in consideration for the top pick. IMO he is more likely to become a borderline star (a la Beal, McCullom at the 2, Gallinari, Tobias Harris at the 3/4) than LaVine at the 2.
