Not sure. All I heard was that details are being worked out on a new deal for Smart, and that both sides want to get a deal done fairly soon so they can both focus on other initiatives i.e. Smart/his mom, Celtics/Player evaluation/free agency/ trade market.Green_teamer wrote:ddb wrote:No, sorry guys. You think his deal is going to be made official tonight maybe?
The Smart market has been pretty quiet because teams are pretty aware that Boston intends on having Marcus back.

Hopefully something reasonable.
I’m thinking 4 years-48 million with maybe an opt out so he can capitalize if he improves his shot. Smart will say that he could’ve gotten more somewhere else but Boston is his home and he wants to continue to build on last years accomplishments. Gives him time to be with his mother and family and not have to worry about next year.

All we heard was their pick wouldnt be great because of all their cap room to get middling free agents but it seems like theyve been very quiet
They should be quiet. Their acquiring vet presence strategy failed. They need to focus on developing their youth.

Giles and Bagley looked GOOD last night. Looking like Sacto finally has a young dynamic duo of their own. Add in Fox, Hield, WCS, Bogdonivic. Not a bad young core at all. Too bad they don't have their 2019 pick....lol. they are an RJ Barrett away from being legitMarvel wrote:amory87 wrote:Have the Kings gotten anyone?

Off the top of my head...
Atlanta drafted Trae Young and they've got Schroder
Chicago has Dunn and Levine (for now).
Philly's doing whatever they are with Simmons and Fultz
Sacramento has Hield and Fox.
Why would any of these teams put out a big contract for Smart?
I'm happy. I like him and I'll be really glad to have him on the roster.

Agreed. Giles was reserved but he looked healthy. Has a nice shot and 3 point range. Bagley plays like a young Amare.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Everything has gone our way in free agency so far. I think Chicago, Sacramento and Atlanta won't offer anything to Smart. And he'd be making a career suicide if he goes to those teams. But money could eventually be more important in the end.

I'm hearing short term. Accomplishes 2 things. A. Keeps him in Boston where he is valued and where he can compete for a title. B. Flexibility to get back to free agency when the market is better.rickrolled wrote:Green_teamer wrote:

You know if they're worried about the FA of Kyrie, Rozier and maybe Horford next year? How does Smarts extension effect next years FA plans?ddb wrote:I'm hearing short term. Accomplishes 2 things. A. Re: NBA Free Agency
Baynes gave Marcus Smart some cover by accepting a slightly lower offer. Baynes gave back a little money for the team. It makes it fine for someone else to do the same. Everybody looks good.
Smart is wanted and appreciated by Stevens and Ainge. He will get paid pretty well now, and better next time. Plus with the situation with his mother, he's got other things to think about and doesn't need a long distraction.
