Would Zach accept a deal like this? Exum and Zach are similar talents, with Exum having a slight to moderate edge on offense and a heavy edge on defense.

Exum 68 games separate Embiid and Exum been in the league 4 years and both missed and entire season.

Don’t think Lavine would take such a deal like that def in the 70-80 range

I dunno if Exum is the better offensive player. But I do agree they are roughly similar -- two athletic 22 years old with more potential than accomplishments. That price seems about right.

Market has been set for Zach. It's somewhere around 3 years and 12-14 a year. Nice. I'd be OK bringing him back on that deal. This turned out well for Chicago. Wonder if GarPax were really thinking this long term (with how few teams would have cap money this year) when they traded for him. If so, good job.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

lavine's performance over 47 games in 2016-17 is comfortably more impressive than exum's performance in 14 games in 2017-18, imo

I think Exum's deal gives the second piece of the puzzle for the valuation of Lavine (for me personally). Coming into free agency, I said that the two deals that would set Lavine's true value would be Exum and Gordon. My thought was that the average annual salary between those two deals would set Lavine's value give or take a 10% variance to account for market circumstances etc.

So with the average annual salary on these deals being 16.5M, my thinking is that it sets Lavine's value at anywhere between 14.85-18.15M per year. The way I see it, if Lavine wants the top end of that spectrum, it needs to be on a 1+1. If he wants a 4 year, then it should be substantially closer to the lower end of the spectrum. Fair or not fair?

Probably not, he laughed at the $15m per year estimate, he should be given.

I think it's fair, I think that's the market, and I agree on your take at 1+1 vs longer contract.

I'm surprised and applaud the Jazz for not giving up on him.

I understand that in limited minutes, he had a pretty decent season last year, and 11 million per for a role player who is likely to get a little more burn the upcoming years if he stays healthy is a fairly good deal I guess.

I'm surprised, yet I hope Exum works out for them, because he was unfairly hit with various injuries, and he has only scratched the surface of his potential.

If Cleveland overpays Hood to desperately retain him too, that might tip Zach's market up again but the NBA middle-class is starting to come back to realistic contracts again.

Is he expecting more? I haven't seen anything to indicate that is the case.

don't know but the bulls plans were to offer a good faith team friendly deal and negotiations haven't advanced I'm assuming yes

The Bulls are in a great position to get really good deals, not only with our existing free agents, but any players still on the market. They just need to hold firm and let the money dry up around the league, agents will continue to come calling.

Zach I wouldn't be shocked if he signs a 1 year deal, just to prove himself. As for Nwaba, I can understand that he will be looking for a multiple year deal, just because of where he came from, I wouldn't blame him for wanting some security.

Thank you GarPax for being smart about this. LaVine and Nwaba are not pieces that you over pay for. Keep letting the market dry up. Not a lot of teams left with the cap space that LaVine is probably asking for. And even then those teams dont really have a need for him.

Can we stop with the 'everybody who won't back the Brinx truck to Zach's house doesn't appreciate that he is (was/could be/might return to being, etc.) a world-class athlete.

Weren't Bo Jackson, Dominique Wilkins and Vince Carter ALL world-class athletes?

Where are THEIR rings?

I think there is a fundamental disagreement on this board about what we're building here. Who was San Antonio's most athletic championship player?

The whole NBA is up in arms abou thow 'unfair' Golden State's free agency options and successes are (in an era when few would dispute the physical specimen that is LeBron James), and the only world-class athlete on their roster would probably be who? Probably high-jumper Andre Iguodala?

Some of you would have thrown a max contract at Willie Gault before paying Mike Singletary or Walter Payton, and accused those who disagreed with failing to notice Gault's speed.

We know Zach is uber-athletic. Ok?

We know. It didn't escape our attention.

Yet, here we sit, having gone from Paul George and LeBron James getting $30+ million per year over 4 years down to where the biggest signing is Avery Bradley at $12 MM per. Zach is still holding up the wall while the dance floor is sweaty and packed, and the minimum estimate for the thread poll ($13 MM), as to what Zach will command, is higher than any of the signings we're hearing about, save Devin Booker, who performed extraordinarily, didn't miss a ton of games for good reasons OR bad, whose contract can go for four years because so much of Phoenix's starting linep will be on 3-4 season rookie deals during that time, and the Suns don't have to pay to renegotiate anybody crucial during that time.

It's funny that Phoenix is maxing out a player who is eerily similar to LaVine.

I like Lavine. But Booker is a better player. At least at this point.

Not to the tune of $32M though.

I don't think they're similar talents. Exum's talents are much more hypothetical/potential based than LaVine's. Exum played 14 games this season and hasn't played over 20 mpg since his rookie season. LaVine is our leading scorer.
