Meh. LeBron leaving the EC, while possibly improving the Pistons’ chances at a playoff spot, doesn’t make the team any better and I hope like hell it doesn’t change what the team does. If Gores does the “ooh—now we have an even BETTER shot” and makes another extreme “win now” move I’ll smash someone’s face.

I'll take that move. Whatever it takes to make a drastic change to the team. Mediocrity is when a team doesn't take big risks. I'd rather us take big risks and then tank later than wait year in and out to get lucky in the Lottery. Then you'll end up like Orlando.

Not really. I mean the imbalance between the east and west definitely makes Blake Griffin better player than what he probably is, so there is that. That said, I think if the Pistons do get some momentum under Casey, the bandwagon will expand quickly.

We are not tanking though. We are shooting for playoffs. Last time in he swept us. I betcha all of the east just breathed a sigh of relief.

It's the problem I have rooting for this team right now. I don't want playoffs. This team's ceiling isn't nearly high enough to have those sorts of goals.

You're right they're not good enough. But we have pieces to move more forward than people think. More than a lottery pick that's for sure in my opinion. We can make a trade like how OKC got George and hope to keep the player like how OKC did. We can't keep Jackson, he's not good enough. People think we suck that means the lottery pick is very valuable on our team. We gotta trade it again for a star PG.

I'm going to preface this saying we are going to agree to disagree from the jump to try and avoid a big back and forth.

That said, I'm ready for us to try going the draft and develop route for a long timespan to see where that gets us.

1. We aren't in a position where a star PG will make us a contender. I mean, you add CP3 to this team (who is arguably the best PG in the league) and you have the Clippers North from a few years back (Swapping Dre for Deandre). They realized that combo wasn't going to net championships and abandoned the effort.

2. The last 15 years we've been very willing to deal away our picks and it just hasn't worked. Immediate gains, long-term losses. Draft picks are just a cheaper way to gain talent. Instead of dealing away these opportunities we should be stockpiling them.

3. We don't have Russell Westbrook on our team as a cornerstone to build around and attract talent. We have Drummond and Griffin. They are good talents in their own way but they won't convince free agents to come here based on name alone like other stars will.

Our chances look pretty good. We're probably still behind TOR, BOS, PHI, IND, MIL, WAS. We should overtake CLE and I still can't figure out how MIA won 44 games. None of the teams below us really look like they've improved.

Why would we behind all those teams? I don't understand people. Injuries killed our team and when we were healthy we were #4 with lebron being above us. I don't think people understand the power of chemistry and momentum -> See Boston. You don't need a lot to compete. You just need a good coach and we got the coach of the year.

Yeah. It's funny. I can more or less enjoy the Tigers for what they are right now, and it took me a while to fully understand why I feel differently about them than the Pistons. On paper they've got a lot of the same issues the Pistons do. They are mediocre at the best of times, and truly awful at the worst of times. The young talent is relatively lacking for now, the farm system is still a work in progress, we have no emerging position players, the team was poorly managed for years and we're still saddled with some awful contracts. Still, there's a mellow enjoyement to be had there. It's not as fun as if the team was actually contending, but I can still appreciate it for what it is.

Why? They're rebuilding. They're not going out and trying to add marginal position players to cobble together a fringe playoff contender. They're not trading away prospects. They're publicly acknowledging the franchise is in a transitional period, and will trade any of their current pieces in a move they think will help their future. They're investing in youth in a serious and committal way.

The Pistons? They just won't flipping let go and embrace the right direction and there's no sign they're going to anytime soon. And for that reason it's just really hard to get excited.

You're right. I actually do wanna tank and wanted to tank. I really thought about it though. It's the cheapest way to get talent it's true. But not the only way. I've seen a lot of teams tank and cross their fingers. Literally the whole league. To me I believe the best thing to do is to keep making drastic changes even a tanking year and I think the best way to do it is to get the most value for every move you can make. It's just really hard because reality is...There are over 20+ teams out there trying to do the same thing and they haven't won a ring yet...yeah and you think we're doing bad? It's not even close! We're just trying to compete that's the issue lmao

I'm happy he left for the Fakers because I can continue to hate LeBron in the style to which I have become accustomed.
Had he left for some other west coast team, I might have been conflicted.
