Isn't this largely the same concept as the "forgotten stars" draft?

I didn't play that one but looking at the draft thread is some crossover, although that game had some more popular players like Barry and Gervin as well.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

Rather than forcing people to pick specific players, I wouldn't mind just doing something with a banned list of the typical superstar options. (I believe I suggested something like that a while back.) Lots of great teams over the years have been built around guys who are never picked in these games.

I like the idea of not picking players who have won a title in our games, which is something like you're suggesting. It would shake up the role players as well.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts - 1) It's less than the MLE 2) He can be traded later 3) It's only __% of the cap 4) The cap is going up 5) It's only __ years 6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

That's too extreme for me though. Keep in mind we've also had a lot of restricted/themed drafts which have been won with some of the less popular players that we're trying to push to the forefront.
Besides, for me it's just about the main guys - I want to see teams that aren't built around the usual suspects. I don't mind keeping a Ray Allen for example, but how about prime Bucks Allen as one of the main stars rather than cheap Boston Allen as a complementary piece? To be honest, just eliminating both regular season and Finals MVP winners would probably be sufficient to get it done.
Dr Positivity wrote:I agree that nobody who's won a game is too extreme. I would be ok with a game banning most of the usual alphas
Do you think banning MVPs would do it, or would it be better to create a banned list?
Your previous post mentioning banning all MVPs including Finals and ASG seemed fine to me. The top teams would get some stars left over like peak Ewing and Tmac, but both are expensive so I think it's managable

We've done a no MVP game. Adding in Finals MVPs is just a few more players, so pretty much the same.

Just at a quick glance it removes 14 picks from the first two rounds of that draft. In any case that was in January of last year, many of the people who played it are no longer regulars.
Do you want to start a steal game? I'd be down with whatever rules you decide.

Me too but I'm not sure I'd exempt first rounders.
Also might be messy to put someone on the clock immediately if they have a player stolen.

I would definitely exempt 1st rounders. I think everyone should be able to at least secure 1 player and feel safe knowing they are off limits. But after the first round I think all picks should be fair game.
And I’ve been thinking about the challenge aspect and I think we should get rid of it. Just make all participants use a steal before the draft ends. If nobody uses a steal then they are ineligible from playoffs/rankings. Once a player is stolen they can’t be stolen again by someone else. Everyone who plays will just have to be on alert and know that their pick/player could get stolen at any moment so check the threads often. It would help to make it mandatory for the stealer to quote the person so they know they are back on the clock as well.

OK, but some are on phones or other devices and say they can't quote(?)

A few thoughts -
I tend to agree with Dantley on stealing first rounders. I mean, is anyone going to get excited or change a game by stealing Paul George?
B would be at a big disadvantage if first rounders can't be stolen. The top end second rounders would get stolen.
I'm not sure about allowing a player to only be stolen once. Once a player is taken near the top of whatever round we can start stealing, the next drafter can steal a top player immediately, knowing he's secure.
I think a better rule might be every team is allowed one steal but each team can only be stolen from once. So if you wait too long too execute your steal the pool gets limited. Adds some strategy and seems fairer.

If not I'll take a shot at it.
