Yes, this has been said before, but the problem with this is with the Celtics at 115 million in salary without Smart, using Smart and Morris in a deal for Kahwi will increase the Celtics payroll to close to 130 Million, which is 6.2 million into the luxury tax, which will kickstart the repeater tax one year sooner, and forfeit 5 million of payments from the luxury tax teams to each non-tax team. They should probably do it, but it's a problem.

Why would they offer 10 million per year if the next team hasn’t even offered 7 million. He can’t shoot so no one wants him cause he isn’t starter material. N btw, the jazz are stupid for giving Exum that contract. They bid against themselves.
To be fair to Utah they paid him what his going rate should probably be and it can be a challenge to find guys who are willing to sign in Utah. I am not sure the Jazz are in the position to jam guys up all the time. I kind of feel like Boston will do the same thing with Smart that contract is probably a good basis for a deal with Marcus. Sure you can make him play on the QO or make him take 8-9 mil and have him be pissed about it or you can tell him that this what the market says your worth and we can do 11 mil a season.

It is a problem for Marcus Smart not for Kawhi Leonard.

Yah, I trust Waltah and Smitty over Murphy.
Smart has said publicly he's delegating as much as he can to his agent.
I really doubt that Ainge has refused to talk to Smart's agent. And I also doubt that Smart has an agent so bad he couldn't think to simply place a call to Ainge.
That said ... I doubt Murphy is exactly lying. Rather, he's been played. He reported what somebody on Smart's said as if it were gospel, and simply nodded to the fact that Ainge refused comment.

This may also be Smart's team raising the white flag. That they do not have an offer sheet so how do they leverage and offer out of Boston, maybe by playing to Ainge's affection for Marcus and the fact that the kid is pretty popular around town to get Ainge to make an offer.

Sounds like Smart’s camp is creating drama to signal to other teams he’d welcome an offer and might be peeled away from Boston..

Re: Jackie Mac on Marcus Smart's RFA--"He's going for the money"
Boston isn’t calling = they might not care enough to match an offer = situation tense = San Antonio should offer a deal and see if Boston matches.
My guess is that Smart hasn’t received any offers above the MLE - the only real leverage a competitor has is a front-loaded or back-loaded deal that would mess with our cap, or an extra year.
If San Antonio offers 4 years, 10 million per and bets Smart will smooth out his shot, do we match?

The Bulls would be another team to watch for - they have a ton of money, and they could lose Lavine to Sacramento.
Schroeder is the other piece up in the air.

Just passing through... there hasn't been any news in Chicago about an interest in Smart. Any team-friendly contract will just get matched and they're still run by Scrooge McReinsdorf.

These Smart reports are hilarious. It's hilarious the posturing sides do to get the deal they want.
I was told 2 days ago they were working on ironing out a few contract details, and today a source says Smarts camp is saying they haven't heard from Boston. That's not true.
It's all posturing. Deal will be done soon.
Only way it doesn't is if Ainge plans on getting him to SA or Chicago as a piece in a S/T for either Kawhi or Butler. If that happens Ainge will get Marcus a nice deal like 1/15 or 2/28

He's worth that as is.

Smart is holding off since he wants to play for Kyrie's Nets or Knicks super team next year with Butler/Durant/Thompson/Cousins.

But, Smart is "hurt and disgusted".
