Re: 2018 Summer League General Discussion
Sometimes a "bad" Summer League player will do way better in the pros because of spacing and the attention drawn by actual NBA players, even if the talent level they're going against is way higher. SL rosters are full of guys playing for themselves/to get a contract and there is little to no cohesion usually in that atmosphere.

Re: 2018 Summer League General Discussion
You'd rather look good in SL than look bad in SL, but we've all watched enough SL to know that it's terrible basketball and you can't draw any conclusions from it.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.
- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Re: 2018 Summer League General Discussion
On OPP i compared him with Brandon Jennings.
Brandon in Europe was super fast (and better athlete) but in nba he simply couldn't find better shots or looks, so he come off as brick shooter.
When you are that much smaller and you have not a single adventage in speed, leaping or strenght over opponents most of shots you take will be bad shots.
He can't take his guys off dribble and even when he does ,he creates no separation and they cought him and contest.
I would like to say things are going to be easier in nba, but they won't. Hawks roster is G league roster, he will get roasted in rookie year.

Brandon Jennigs was super average/bad in Europe. He was much better in Nba.

I said super fast, not super good lol
He was skinny kid playing against grown men, especially because in that period Euroleague was stacked with talent. Theo Papaloukas, Peković, Lavrinovic brothers,Jasikevičius pretty much whole Lithuania and Greece national teams played that year in Europe.
First thing that Young has to do is learn that he can't shoot without jumping-ever. Guy thinks this is college and shoots from floor, that's why he gets blocked all the time.

Where was this super fast movement showed?
He had very bad % for 2 and 3, meaning he probably didn’t beat his opponents easily and hadn’t open looks, he drawn only 1.5 fouls/game and had only 2 FTs/game. It looks to me, he didn’t do anything with his superior quickness. He was total failure in Europe. He was much bigger brick shooter in Europe than in Nba too. I cannot see what your comparison with Europe mean? He was much better in everything in Nba, his shooting % was even in his last year in Nba, very bad year for him, better than in Europe.

Re: 2018 Summer League General Discussion
europe is just a different style to NBA, being fast and athletic doesn't always pan out to being a superior play like it does in the NBA some players do well in one system some do well in the other

Sure, but the man want to compare how much more difficult is to get decent shots in Nba than in Europe, that’s maybe the case. But Jennigs comparison is wrong, because he shot 45 % for 2 and 26% for 3 in Europe and that’s as bad as it can get.

It depends on player and style though, some players have said it's more difficult getting their looks in europe because the defensive schemes on top teams can be more advanced than what's used in the NBA, the man to man defense isn't as tough as the nba though because it's rarer to find the combo and speed and size NBA players have. Jennings is bad in any league though

I agree with you and I replied only because I watched Brandon in Europe and remember how bad he was. Funny enough, he looked much better in his first Nba season.

I watched him in Italy because my tv provider covered italian sports. He was fast as hell but on set defense, oriented on half court he couldn't do much because he was pushed aruond too easly.
Trae isn't that fast but much like Brandon, simply doesn't have body strenght for nba.

Definitely feels like Bagley has escaped a lot of criticism for his early summer performance because of how bad Young has looked.
Bagley’s complete lack of right hand is really jarring at times.

Bell took him to school on defense in first game, last night he didn't even shoot.
He was super athlete at college, but in nba he really isn't that special.
Spurs PG Derrick White has been easly best player in SL, but he is 24 years old.
6'4- 190 PG with nice feeling for offense from what i saw and smart shot selection.

Re: 2018 Summer League General Discussion
Just some words of caution to those watching the game today—-“It’s okay, it’s only summer league”. These guys can and will improve. Whatever you do, do not get into an argument with the other fans on the general board.
We as a group haven’t really posted in the rookie or summer league thread on the general board for quite some time, hopefully we’ll have an exciting group this season.
But, enjoy the game, hopefully they all present themselves well.

Yeah, I saw that too.
I'm wondering if we'll see Birch play with Mo some. I thought Allen had a decent rookie year this past year.

He's going to be good and he's only 24 days older than Bamba.
