He's never had the chance to trade for a top 5 talent, so there's no telling what he'd do in this situation. This is the caliber player he's always wanted, so time will tell how far he'll go.

Well, they fit perfectly that culture and lifestyle, young guys are so fascinated with luxury items and appearance in these times that everything LA seems awesome to their eyes. Since I’m not young I still prefer loyalty, hard work and suffering. The only things I really taste in life are the one I’ve earned. Every time I see a young guy who prefers the harder way to the easiest it really warms my heart.

Why do I have a weird feeling we don't really want Kawhi.. instead Danny can package Smart+ to Minnesota for Jimmy Butler. Doesn't Smart seem like a Thibs type of player?

No thanks to Butler. All the guy does is shift blame and point fingers at the young players. Did it in Chicago, and now he's doing it in Minnesota. Kind of odd, since he bragged about being a leader for the Timberwolves after he got traded there.

There's a lot of spin to the general effect that the problems in the Spurs/Leonard relationship are caused by the middlemen, and specifically that things are fine when Kawhi talks to Popovich or Buford or whoever, but that such conversations are bizarrely rare. This goes back to the old Popovich quotes to the effect that he didn't know anything, because Kawhi's people were controlling info.

I take all this as the Spurs trying to communicate with Kawhi via the media and telling him his advisers aren't acting in his best interest.

And by the way -- from the few numbers that have been thrown around, getting a higher salary is likely to do just as much for Kawhi's bank account as would raising his endorsement profile, especially within the constraints of him being a media-shy kind of person.

What I don't have any clue about is whether this is a Lavar Ball kind of situation, in which the family gets a much bigger cut of any shoe money or whatever than it does of actual salary.

And Kyrie is not that far.

KG 100%, former MVP.

Kyrie has to completely change who is defensively to get on those other two levels though.

I think it's a disservice to KG and Kawhi to say Kyrie isn't that far... but I guess far is semantics.

Still though, not even on their tier let alone close. (who knows if Kawhi is still that type of player these days though).

Plus he has chronic knee issues, turns 29 in September and will want a max contract next summer.

I had interest in Butler a couple of years ago. Now? No thanks.

To be fair, I think ermo was just saying that Kyrie isn't far from being a top five-caliber player (I'd put him in the top 15 range). I don't think anyone on this forum would put him in the same category as Garnett or Kawhi (especially KG).

Yeah that is fair. Even towards the end I was like ehhh I'm probably arguing just meaning of close here and that's never anything to really argue about. It's one way or another.

Yeah I can see the argument for getting Kyrie in the top 15. It gets tricky in his range and you could have wild swings from like 12 to 25.

Yeah, I wasn’t saying he is almost like KG, even Leonard is nowhere near KG, I was talking about being Top 5, Kyrie is one of the Top Players in this league, I don’t know if he is top 10 or top 15 but in that range, not easy to trade for him either.

Damn maybe I shouldn't have told him "i Love your new point guard", long walks on the beach and reminiscing about days long past I guess.

Doubt Ainge would give both Rozier and Smart and leave the Celtics with no backup point guard. Need to include Smart because of salary.

I’m confident Hayward can handle for the second unit or that we can find some combo guard for the MLE... How’s Jamal Crawford doing these days?
