again, the medical situation was out of their hand on august, the 8th, are you saying that they mishandled it so bad, kawhi had to miss all season? and what exactly could they have done in the time between playoffs and august 8th? he was rehabbing/taking time off from the ankle injury anyway and at some point he must have been to vacation too. it's not like they made him play in the summerleague.

The reports were that Spurs were handling it and their doctors said he was cleared to play, yet now they say that Kawhi group had control. These reports from the Spurs are contradictory. How could he be cleared to play by a group not handling the process?

The spurs were protecting their player all season long. He wasn't feeling right and wanted to have a different doctor team, so they complied. I'm guessing they had a timeline of rehab and a plan for Kawhi to return. Then kawhi returned and disappeared after 9 games. The trade rumours got started and communication died down.

And even then, all that followed was a player meeting, and Tony Parker commenting on Kawhi and still defending him in april, after he pretty much missed the whole season for some mysterious reason. And Pop telling that they had to ask Kawhi's group, meaning exactly what it sounds like, no communication from Kawhi.

Basically spurs protecting their player as long as anyone could be expected to ever do it.

Reading stuff like this about Kawhi and his uncle's influence is just incredibly sad and makes me sick to my stomach.

Obviously, any analysis like this, by people like us way out in the peanut gallery, should be taken with a big ol' grain of salt, but this is a guy whose father was murdered when he was 16. And just from observing him all these years, and then particularly with all this stuff coming out, he just seems like someone who dealt with that by throwing himself into basketball so he wouldn't have to fully deal with that trauma. The obvious downside being that at some level he's locked in that 16 year old level of development, that he missed developing some of the life skills and decision making ability that should come in your late teens and early 20s.

And the man who stepped in to fill that void was a total sleazeball, an utter opportunist, a complete amateur who has taken this opportunity to manipulate Kawhi down lines that he thinks will benefit himself, regardless of the impact they have on Kawhi's career.

This is all about "his group" and Uncle trying to get him to a big market, that's it. As a Suns fans I hate the Spurs but even I can see this isn't their fault

it makes a lot of sense. pop loved kawhi because of how malleable he is/was. the man agreed to be pop's clay. and all went well for him on the court.

maybe that same personality trait makes him prone to exploitation. sad when you think about it.

Lavar is a loudmouth and easy to read. If anything, he loves the Lakers and his sons too much. It's a forgivable nuisance.

This uncle operates in the shadows, away from the media. No one really knows what his motives are, or if he even has Kawhi's best interests at heart.

At this point I don't even want the Lakers to deal for him. This is an ugly situation with question marks all over it. Just let this thing play out on its own and revisit next summer in free agency.

It's nice to see the Spurs going through some drama for once :lol:

. They were lucky to have 3 hall of famers with such little ego. Phil Jackson had to coach some of the biggest egos to ever come through the NBA. It's harder than he made it look. All of these leaks coming out from Kawhi's people and from the Spurs is a really bad look. I can't imagine they want to go through an entire season like this.
