You can't genuinely think Lavine is a G-League talent, that's just ridiculous.

He's a 20 point a game scorer, who, discounting a 24 game sample last season, was an efficient shooter on a high volume of 3 point attempts.

It's like saying Bulls-era Boozer should've been getting DNP's.

We should’ve been starting Taj the whole time and using Boozers money on a 2. The Boozer signing sucked hard.

Sure, but that doesn't defeat the point. Boozer was still an important part of that team.

I'd personally smile and say "good deal".

Wouldn't that place him close to the 90th percentile pay/year? At 38% FGP, 16 PPG, and injury issues, I just don't see how he's worth that. If we're willing to roll the dice with injuries, it would be nice to offer a big contract to Jabari Parker.

Yeah a guy with two ACL tears and no position. Definitely a better gamble than LaVine.

I'm actually not particularly into taking risks on injuries when it comes to rebuilding, so neither sounds great. But if we had to make an offer, 48% FGP for Parker beats 38% for Lavine. You say no position, I say versatile.

One thing worth remembering is the cap jump next year. Even if you see this as an overpay, he has talent and is young. Get his defense half in order, itll be fine.

Guarantee it will look better than some deals signed next off season.

Interesting you see it that way. Most often our views are aligned but not in this case. I think Boozer was an anchor of a bad deal. A primary reason for our ineptitude.

No. No. No.

I’m as big a Bulls apologist as exists. I give Gar/Pax the benefit of the doubt always. I make excuses for them at every opportunity. But I just can’t explain this.

No problem with this. Upward and onward. A nice conversation with Zach and his expectations is in order from the Bulls FO. It might be wishful thinking, not playing for a contract anymore, that he plays within the offense and takes the next step.

Why are you using field goal percentage to attempt to make an argument?

I like it.
Lavine is the 2nd coming of Reggie Theus.

This means the 2nd coming of Jordan is near.

Go Bulls!

Oladipo's contract looked horrible initially and now, no one bats an eye.

I keep hearing the word "asset" in regards to Zach Lavine but I'm not sure it applies to Lavine the basketball player. Other than NBA Level athleticism, what does Lavine bring to the table? IMO, Lavine is not an asset, at least one that was worth nearly 20 mill year. I was good with sub-par production for a fraction of the cost. So yeah, matching Lavine offer sheet, is another mistake in a long line of mistake by this front office.

All we can do now, is hope it clicks and Zach takes the next step in development, otherwise, the Bulls gave Lavine free money. The fact that it was the Kings that made the offer sheet should have sent red flags.

Really ? Dipo ?

That’s awful - if you cut Dipo arms and legs off and rearrange them top to bottom he’s still a better defender than Lavine.

Jeezuz kryst we are talking about two million dollars difference between everyone liking this deal and losing their *** over it. If we had signed him at $17-18M we would have been ok. So we end up at $19.5 with a clause that protects us if the knee goes bad and this board goes mob negativity. I can hardly read this ****. It seems everyone thinks their smarter if they're cynical. You're girlfriends must be in hell. Get over it already.

That was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the 20M contract. Then I looked at Dipo's pre-extension numbers and saw his impact stats were clearly better than Zach's when he signed (his extension after his 3rd season with ORL)". Oh well. I do think there's still a chance Zach has a "light bulb" moment at some point (hopefully).

The offensive game will negate the defensive liability. The Bulls need to improve team defense period. It's an overpay, but it's a necessary one given the situation. The skills he presents on offense still leaves a lot to the imagination. Kid is not a finished product. Players do work on their game and they do improve. Shocking revelation I know. Give him a healthy season at the very least.

good shot, good first step, the ability to convince yourself he might be able to distribute the ball a little bit if you squint real hard

he can bring the contract into the realm of acceptability by becoming an elite scorer or improving his defense to "slightly below average." sadly, i think the first thing is more likely

Sadly this logic appears to be permeating in all aspects of life, not just basketball. The deal is the deal. Better energy would be spent pondering where the Bulls are now and where they realistically go from here.

Honestly the first step stands out to me more than anything he's done with his vertical, including the dunk contest. I'd say he's a 1 percenter in terms of first step. It's such a lethal advantage if he can put it all together.

i think accounting for the very likely possibility that he does not live up to this contract is "dealing with reality" in a much more meaningful way than unflinchingly praising the deal and guaranteeing that lavine will be worth it

I'm not guaranteeing anything. I do believe he will play well next year though.
