Disagree. I’d have been unhappy at that number too. Lavine is a bad basketball player. I don’t like gambling huge dollars that he’ll change an entire career of being bad.

There are no minutes for Vonleh. Unless he takes the minimum on one year deal I can't see the Bulls being bothered.

Did we ever tender a qualifying offer even? Last I remember hearing about it we were undecided.

Nope. Bulls declined to offer it.

We finished year 1 of the rebuild for Christ sake. Chances of Lavine being the difference maker in getting us out of a rebuild is minuscule. We shouldn't let an above average player like Lavine change our rebuild plans (note how Niko's signing backed fired last year). If your plan is to build through the draft, then losing Lavine, be bad for a few more years and acquire better draft picks SHOULD actually be what a rebuilding team is doing. Resigning Lavine is a saving face move if I ever seen one.

good shot, good first step, the ability to convince yourself he might be able to distribute the ball a little bit if you squint real hard

So that's worth 78 mill over 4 years? Yikes.

he can bring the contract into the realm of acceptability by becoming an elite scorer or improving his defense to "slightly below average." sadly, i think the first thing is more likely

The Bulls need ACTUAL assets, not "tilt your head to the side, and squint your eyes" and you might see an asset. An asset is someone you should be able to move to another team without much trouble, not having to match and offer sheet made by an barely NBA team, the Kings.

I hope Lavine proves me wrong and becomes and elite players but I doubt it.

(In my Lakers fan voice) Yeah we will definitely have a lineup next season of

Kyrie/LaVine/Buckets/Lauri/AD

That should be enough to take Warrior gods the distance.

The Lakers aren't a fa destination. No more than any other team. James signing there was highly bizarre & irregular. The last relevant guy they signed was like Nash or something way back, during his dying days. The boozer signing when it went down was superior to that one. The only thing that wards people from the Bulls is their brass

"the team that just signed the best player in the world after a 35-47 season isn't a free agent destination" is one of the wildest takes i've ever seen

I’m not stoked on the price tag, but I must say, Zach looked very impressive in spots last year. At times it seemed like the game game ridiculously easy to him. Not a lot of backcourt free agents that have such a nice potential upside.

Still though. I think 16 million would have been fair. And Zach has a challenge of both improving his play and developing serious on court chemistry with Lauri if we are to make strides.

This is the Bulls being just entertaining enough to keep drawing big at the United Center and lining Jerry's pockets.

It's certainly not a build a championship team move.

Very dumb move by Bulls. LaVine has good skill-set but he doesn't understand the game at all. His one-man show has ruined many possessions & we don't have any chance to make playoffs next 4 years.

Wow that went quick.
Just woke up to this news. I'm disappointed. 20m for LaVine is too much. It isn't Booker or Wiggins bad, but I still think it is a bad contract already.
Paying so much for potential is not a good to spend money imo.

We will see though, if he wants to be the man with this contract, our potentially better players will not see much of the ball.

With the same attitude as last season he will probably win us some games and lose us many more.

I hope his game and especially IQ evolves, I'm not optimistic though. For our team's sake I hope I have to eat crow on this, I think we will regret matching big time.

If we don't have any chance to make playoffs in the weak East the next 4 years then GarPax will definitely get fired and you can all celebrate. I believe we can competell for the playoffs next season if our young core progresses. May not make the playoffs, but we will be closer to a playoff team than getting a top 5 pick.

I would have rank Lauri first and LaVine second as offensive options right now. That could easily flip flop though.

He should be fired right away after signing LaVine for 4 years with absolutely ridiculous amount of money. It's hard to compete about anything with player like LaVine wasting possession after possession.

It doesn't work like that. Pretty sure Reindorf had to approve that deal.

Lakers just got the best player in the game despite not having a ready made contender. Kawhi is demanding to go there. They will highly likely land another big fish next year be it Kawhi, Jimmy, or Cousins if he proves himself, etc.

I would have preferred to have seen us go into next summer with 2 MAX slots and take a swing at the Jimmy/Kawhi combo. Even though it's a long shot

The Lakers throughout their history have acquired many established superstars via trades and free agency. Us on the other hand, the next superstar we get thru either Avenue will be the 1st since Dennis Rodman in 1995. And this current regime would have never in a million years traded for him due to his character
