If we trade Vuc, our C rotation is a rookie, Birch, and Mozgov. No way they do that. Vuc is staying to help mentor Mo.

The bulk of minutes at 4/5 should just involve variations of Bamba, Isaac, and Gordon.

Yes but if they stretch it, it will count for a while (by a lesser amount). I'm in agreement with Howard, we better not stetch his contract.

Yes, best to eat it this year and next and then have cap space in 2020 when Biyombo's deal would have come off the cap and Augustin's will be up as well.
Only time will tell but I am glad that we have not given up any draft picks for this deal

Why would you think Bamba would be starting? Isaac didn't start last year and it was the start of the Weltman Hammond era. AG didn't start... Mario didn't start.

And WHO would start over DJ right now?

Agreed. I think after seeing Isaac last year and how thin Bamba is, it's probably best to ease him in 15-20 mins off the bench to start the season. I don't think his body would be able to handle a heavy workload his first year. If he stays healthy and proves he can handle it continue to give him more minutes throughout the year. I don't want our rookie missing 50+ games again. I want to see Isaac play a lot more though.

Maybe they approached Biyombo about a possible buyout and he told them to pound sand, but they think Mozgov will be more open to the idea?

Or maybe they just really like Grant and think he could be a rotational player moving forward?

Because we get a young PG prospect to look at.

What was in this for Charlotte? Seems weird(a little) as a whole unless this is a prelude to something else. Still - I like that it clears up any troubles that the 3 would likely have. It's clearly Vuc/Bamba and atleast Mozgov is a better fit than Biz due to our lack of shooting. We need all the spacing we can get, even if he's only filling in p/t.

There is no way in blazing hell that Bismack Biyombo is opting out of a 17mil yearly salary. He prob wont even get 17mil in his next contract. No other idiot besides Hennigan would have given Biz that contract.

I was criticizing the lack of trades in that post as well. That evaluation season really did nothing except decrease the value on the guys we already had && now we are most likely not going to get anything for a guy like Vuc who will probably just walk in free agency.

It's just such a lateral move. Instead of using Vuc, Okc pick, second rounders to move up in the draft to the 11-24 range and draft a guard we make a move like this. Idk I'm going to hold judgment and see if something else happens but if we go into next season with Vuc and Augustine as our starters I will see this as a mistake.

They can buy him out and possibly save a few million. It's late and I don't expect much until the SL game tomorrow, but would expect some negotiation.

This.
Also, just from the comments of the Charlotte fans on Clifford i am under the impression he prefers vets to youngsters. I don't know if he will change it now but Weltman/Hammond have always said we'd go slowly so that could mean the young guys starting out off the bench and working their way into starting positions.

Yep, very weird trade for all teams. I like Grant, but not as a starter and also while I also like DJ, I don't want him starting either. I'm not convinced they still won't sign IT or get another starting Point Guard somehow, they still have their MLE after all.

The Biz and Mozgov situation is basically just a salary swap. I don't think either player was going to get much time with the Magic. I'm not sure if Mozgov will get bought out or not. I guess it really depends on what happens with Vuc. This all seems like it could be leading to another move, but we will see I guess.

Go listen to every one of Clifford's interview since he has been hired, especially the one he did on NBATV the other day. Vuc is the first person he brings up when talking about having a veteran presence on the team. I'm pretty confident that he is here to stay this year. All signs are pretty much pointing to that.

People complain too much about the "evaluation season" while not actually taking a step back to look at what their options were. They inherited a lot of bad contracts which got their predecessor fired. None of those deals were on an expiring season. Waiting IMPROVED the value of those deals. If we don't get anything for them (in trades or 2019 signings) then complain away. But there was little to nothing for them to do last year. Acting quickly could have caused more harm than good.

Possibly.

They needed to free up time for Bamba and even Birch who I feel would have moved ahead of Biyombo.

Maybe they get a few $100,000 out of Mozgov but hopefully there is no stretch.

It's moving parts and getting a look at Grant.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24032320/orlando-magic-trade-chicago-bulls-guard-jerian-grant-3-team-deal

Spoiler:
The deal delivers the Magic a backup point guard to play with D.J. Augustin. With the drafting of Mo Bamba as the franchise's future center, Biyombo's minutes would've been limited this season.

But we still brought in Mosgov.. Is Woj implying that he is either going to get bought out, traded, or just not used at all this year? He is also pretty much saying that DJ is the starter next year.

I think there is a good chance our PG rotation is DJ/Grant/Briscoe this season. This move was insurance.

Ive been very hard on WeHam thie past year, but i think thats done!
When i was browsing other teams depth charts, Grant was my top option as far as realistic trades went and really hoped we would make a move for him. Hes a big PG, can make plays, good shooter, and still pretty young. I also loved that as a starter he filled the stat sheet averaging 10/6/4 (with a 3:1 Assist:turnover ratio) with good shooting percentages. Him also being the nephew of one of my favorite players ever is nice too.........Hey maybe they give him #54 and ask him to wear googles like uncle horace

The fact that they got the most worthless player in the league off the team is just an added bonus. I get that Mozgov deal is about the same, but atleast he isnt AS worthless as biyombo and who know, maybe is willing to be boughtout.

Either way, this is one of my 2 favorite moves the WeHam team has done in the past year. Love it!
