This trade certainly doesn't move the needle any, but at least I don't have to watch stone hands Biyombo anymore. Plus we will save a little money, and get a look at Jerian Grant (although I don't expect much from him, but we will see). DJ is definitely starting barring anymore moves, no way Grant or Briscoe gets the start over him(at least not at first). Now if we could just trade Vooch I would be a lot happier.

That will be our starting lineup next season. Book it. 32-35 win team at best. Good for a 9-12 pick. Very disappointing.

Isaac will start over Ross my dude.

Grant may or may not be the long term guy (i think he is), but he has the POTENTIAL to be, and the same goes for Briscoe, wouldnt surprise me if hes the starter by seasons end. Either way, i think early in the season Grant will become the starter and by the end, our top 2 will be grant and briscoe

Jerian has played 3,979 minutes and 213 games over 3 seasons. He is 25 (26 before the season starts) and is a career 41/31/78 shooter. You think Jerian is the solution as our long term PG starter???????????

Image

I kinda do, and no im not

Sure hes played alot of games, but hes been a backup every year, but he has started 60 over those 3 years and put up pretty respectable numbers, averaging 9.5ppg, 4.5 apd 3rpg, with last year being his best yet averaging 10/6/4 as a starter while keeping TO low, and shooting 42/38/82.

Is he the next CP3? no, but hes a capable starter and a guy who has gotten better every year. So yes i absolutely think he could be our long term PG, also think Briscoe could bet he answer as well. Either way im really happy about this trade and think its going to pay off for us big time this year

Briscoe has a much better shot at shocking us than Grant IMO. Actually... I hope this doesn't mean we'll see less (or none) of Briscoe during the regular season.

Very much doubt that.

Isaac is the wildcard at the 3. Besides that, just from the vibe I'm getting from Clifford, (Similar to the same exact one Vogel had last summer when he sold WeHam on our current roster) I think he believes that this starting lineup when healthy can be competitive.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but this move just further proves that point for me.

What a pointless trade. We could have signed a player of same caliber as Grant in FA. Biz is gone which will make people happy but really Its dead weight for dead weight.

I think one of DJ or Vuc will be moved, still pretty early in the offseason. Don't think we "evaluated" for a year to keep the same team.

At least I hope not.

The only 'maybe' in that lineup is Ross... And I still have doubts that the team would actually start Isaac. EVERYONE gets babied in Orlando and Clifford already mentioned not believing that players improve with regular season minutes.

People also said we'd have the exact same roster as the day after the draft.

Why would you think Bamba would be starting? Isaac didn't start last year and it was the start of the Weltman Hammond era. AG didn't start... Mario didn't start.

And WHO would start over DJ right now?

This.
Also, just from the comments of the Charlotte fans on Clifford i am under the impression he prefers vets to youngsters. I don't know if he will change it now but Weltman/Hammond have always said we'd go slowly so that could mean the young guys starting out off the bench and working their way into starting positions.

One thing I learned from lurking their board is that Clifford hated Biz. This is just.... I needed this tonight. I laughed harder when I went back and looked at the comments back when we signed him. I don’t care what we do moving forward at this point.

Biyombo wouldn't have played much at all whether Clifford liked him or not. Birch was likely going to move ahead or him.

This was moving parts and getting Grant.

there is lots of negativity by a lot of us surrounding this trade, but I just don't understand why? The risk response seems to be "this is a nothing trade... I give up". if it's low profile like-for-like trade with us getting another asset, why would this be upsetting? if we say "this doesn't move the needle" then why does this make is angry?

Did WeHam also see the video of Biz practicing baseline jumpers? That would explain the trade.

The problem is that we haven't moved the needle in either direction. If we're going to go forward this season with the worst PG rotation in the league then we need to trade Vuc, Ross, etc and full out tank. With everything that Clifford has said though, this team is going to be pushing for the playoffs. With this atrocious point guard rotation, they will be exactly where Clifford's Charlotte teams have been the last few years, just outside the 8th seed in the 35-37 win range. That is worst case scenario, and these trades signal that that is exactly what we are going to do which is what has people worried.

Things still could change, but Woj made it sound in his article that that is the direction we were pushing for.

Jerian Grant is more of a SG than PG.

DJ Augustine playmaking ability is better. He is a decent defender and who won't turn over the ball much. But he will dribble the hell out of it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Not sure if partially directed at me since I made the doesn't move the needle comment a few posts ago. What I mean is it is not big trade like I know a lot of people wanted. I am definitely not negative over it though, but it is also nothing to be excited about. It is just a small move that helps a little (slight cap wise and a mediocre prospect). Some people just want a lot more to happen now.
