Juancho back to Spain ?
Juancho has been invited to join Spain's FIBA tournament team. While it's great international experience for him, last year he played he caught mono and realistically lost a season of development for the Nuggets. Even though NBA teams are prohibited from interfering or stopping players from joining in on this tournament, I wonder how the Nuggets feel about this "opportunity" ? What happens if Juancho gets hurt or sick again ? Does Juancho take the risk ??

Well yeah, you can get hurt or sick anywhere anytime, but I think he needs to focus on his health and preparing for a Nuggets' season. It's sorta' like Jokic last year. I know he took grief for not playing for his national team but this is an important season for Hernangomez. If he wants more playing time, he needs to focus on that.

Gotta agree, I am all for FIBA but JH needs to be focused on his job, not his country.

Well, Hernangomez will be in FIBA and while it's not what I would have chosen, he has a right to make up his own mind and with proper self-discipline, this could be good for him.

I'm probably going to be watching at least Spain's games, maybe a few more.

Juancho Hernangomez, the Denver Nuggets third-year combo forward, has been selected to participate with Spain’s FIBA World Cup qualifying team.
Hernangomez has been playing for some level of the Spanish National team since 2013, so his inclusion — even without any other NBA counterparts on the Spanish roster — is not surprising. Hernangomez will hopefully be a focal point of the team being that his talent is as high as anyone on the roster, which should help him continue to develop.
Hernangomez is in the midst of his most important offseason and, after his health debacle to start the Nuggets’ 2017-18 season, he has a lot to prove. He averaged just 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game over just 25 games played after dealing with a bout with mononucleosis followed directly be the flu.
Hernangomez’s first shot at reminding everyone of his talent will be on June 28th when Spain takes on Slovenia and his next shot will be on July 1st against Belarus. So far, Spain is 4-0 in their qualifiers and Hernangomez will look to help Spain go 6-0.
I'm probably going to be watching at least Spain's games, maybe a few more.

For a player with such disastrous previous season, this news about Juancho competitive bussy week is actually positive. He is chosen to be a crucial player and the only "star" of this temporary Spanish selection, which should have a very positive impact on his confidence.

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
Well, I get that Juancho is supposed to be "featured" but I'd bet it's not the same system the Nuggets run so there is no "learning" for the job, he'd be better served being featured in SL. At least there he would be building chemistry, learning to play within the system and getting to know what is expected of him.
I do hope he does well and stays healthy in Spain, but I'm not thrilled.

Probably the most important things for him are health and confidence. His job with the Nuggets is shooting & scoring with some defense. It seems unlikely his team with his national team will hurt those. That's how they use him too.

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
Spain won yesterday against Slovenia 72-83 Juancho was just solid, nothing special, 10pt-4rb-3bl in about 20 minutes, but the most interesting thing about this match is the fact that Vlatko Cancar was best in Slovenian team with 17pts (6-9 fg).

All the Nuggets need from Hernangomez is "solid". When we draft-n-stash, I'm always doubtful but still hopeful. I thought Radicevic might work out nice as a combo-guard ... I thought Cornelie might make a nice PF that could play some center ... (still hoping on him, but not as much). It seemed like Cancar might make the ideal 5th man at SF and I still believe he might make it. Again, we don't need a superstar there, just a good defensive player who can score some.

Not sure how to take those results, good news or bad ?? Is our "featured" 1st round pick just mediocre or is our 2nd rounder starting to develop into a player ??

This match has no real value for Spain, they already qualify, but it is nice to see Juancho is able to play over 20 minutes, and finally to notice some good news from Cancar.

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
For those who are curious about Juancho 2nd game in Spanish FIBA qualifications, here is short report: in a blowout win vs weak Belarus team, his 11pt, 8rb, and 3blk were most in points, rebounds, and blocks in winning team. But the bad news is that percentages are once again bad (4-12FG, including 1-5 for 3pt).
Vlatko Cancar once again has notable game in Slovenia loss vs Montenegro, leading his team in mpg(32), pts(15) and reb(8), but unlike in previous game this time his percentages are bad (5/15FG).
This phase of FIBA World Cup 2019 qualifications are over, so Juancho (maybe Cancar too) can join Summer league if his plan is to play more and more.

Having been around a friend who is a professional body builder that got a severe case of mono then a relapse, it took him 10 months to just get back into a full training regiment. I think we have to wait until training camp to see what he is going to do long term.

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
Was listening to Adam Mares on 950am, heard Juancho’s commitment to Spain’s FIBA team is done, what is he doing? Cancar had the same commitments and is showing his stuff to the Nuggets in SL, why the heck isn’t JH there ? Lyles has already passed him up, Lydon and Cancar are making a case.. his absence is deafening IMO
He missed pretty much all last season, isn’t guaranteed a roster spot, needs to show the team where he’s at...where is HIS commitment to this team ??

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
His brother Willy playing very well this year Summer League. Dwight Howard leaves Hornets so Willy is very motivated to take starter center job, or at least to secure over 20 minutes per game. In 3 SL games, he averages 18-12!
Why brother Juancho not trying the same thing, especially now when Wilson Chandler leaves?

Re: Juancho back to Spain ?
I personally don't care if Juancho plays in summer league or not, he is a 3rd year player and has no requirement and realistically most summer league games are pickup quality games. Plus last I heard most teams had world cup qualifiers later this summer, and I am sure Juancho will play on that team as well, you don't want him to have no time off.
