If they are determined to spend money on a restricted FA then I'm OK with Smart. I was a big fan of his coming out of college, and while the shooting does concern me I think he provides enough intangibles to still be a positive performer. That said, C's match, hahaha.

I've read your thread from this point to the end and don't come as a troll. I live in Rhode Island so effectively my home team - when I watch 30 minutes of basketball - is the Celtics. Before Vlade threw money at LaVine, I was hoping you would make a run at Smart. He's a subpar shooter - bring in Drew Hanlen to work with him - but he's a winner in every other way.

You have the cap space to offer him four at $55 mil or $60 mil but front load it at $16.5 mil or $15.5 mil and work down to $13.5 mil or $12.5 mil. He will bring defensive intensity like you've never seen. He's the guard equivalent of Andre Iguodala. He's a perfect fit with Fox. Looking at your payroll, Shumpert's $11 mil comes off after this season, so you'll still have some money to play with next season with the cap scheduled to go up to $108 mil.

I don't know whether the Celtics will match. It won't be easy for them because they've got to deal with Rozier who's going to be very unhappy coming off the bench. And then they're going to make their third $30 mil offer to Kyrie next July. That will give them three players - two coming off major surgery - at a combined $90 mil. Good luck.

I also don't believe that the pick you lose this coming year will be a bottom five pick. You have a nice young nucleus which has been underreported. The addition of Smart will not hurt you.

He knows how to win and he can play multiple defensive positions.

Good luck.

Look at this Sixers fan over on the Kings board, begging them to sign Smart. LMAO!!!

FG% dont matter much, when you are a knockdown shooter from 3, which 38%. Only in your weird universe where 38% is not knockdown.

FG% doesn't matter, but his overall level of efficiency does

His 38% from 3 is good. BUT, it doesn't make up for his level of awful shooting from other areas of the court. His 52% TS is far below league average (55.6).

55.6 is the league average for all players at all positions.

The average TS% for guards is closer to 53. The average TS% for wings is 55-56. The average TS% for bigs is closer to 58.

Rozier produces at a slightly below average efficiency for his position.

Terry TS% was 52% for the year. I am sure it was better as a starter. In the playoffs it was 55.3%.

Most importantly though, it was 32% as a rookie, 46% second year, and 52% last year, rising to 55% in playoffs. Clearly it will be 65% next year......just kidding.......but do you really want to give your final word on a young player with that kind of trajectory?

For comparison, Marcus Smart TS% for 4 years: 49, 46, 48.6, 48.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

TRo's TS% .515 before the AS break and .530 after the break.

Oh, and for the playoffs Terry with a .538 TS% to Smart's .447, yet they had nearly identical usg% of 20.7 for Terry vs. 20.6% for Smart. (For the playoffs, Terry also 2nd on the C's in VORP at 1.1 to Smart's 0.3 and 3rd among the C's in WS/48 at .149 to Smart's .038.)

So did Smart or at least his agent go with the "We already have a date for the prom" when they didn't have a date for the prom?

They love him now, because he might leave. Should he stay in Boston, he will again be the trash that all of our players past, present, and future are in the eyes of the GB.

All I have to say is that espn.com has Jabari Bird as the Celtics backup Center on the depth chart page.

Noone thinks he's the next kawhi but everyone should want the option to put Smart on Curry in the finals.

Says the guy who's trying to make the Celtics board look like morons via a comparison that is not agreed upon. Couldn't take a little bit of verbal jousting with Cave so you bounced to the GB and created a lie?

It's funny because Smart fans completely acknowledge his shortcomings, just insist that he is a very valuable player. The Smart haters are the one who go to the extreme and ignore reality and stats because they don't like how he plays.

Return to Boston Celtics
